It probably was available to buy, it just got instantly sold out by droves of bots grabbing them. The same thing happened with the 30 series launch.

OMG I actually got one from a different retailer, it was stuck on authorising for ages so thought I was screwed, but I just got invoiced. My friend got one from the same retailer, although he paid £200 more lol.
