Hi,

I seem to remember back when Vista was released the 64-bit drivers for the 8800GTX were a bit rubbish? Have they sorted them out to be as good as the XP 32-bit drivers?

Also, any other compatibility issues I should know about under 64-bit Vista, I wanna upgrade to it as 4GB of RAM is so cheap now :)

Thanks
Craig.

Take a look at this thread.

I had some stability issues with Nvidia x64 drivers on my 8800GTX when Vista was released, but they was sorted about 2 weeks later. Never had problems since. Vista drivers are equal to XP now, but the performance is still very slightly lower in games, but this isn't the drivers as a lot of people think, it's the OS. Vista has more processes and that running in the background and is more complex. It's like games run faster on Win2K than XP, but that doesn't mean the drivers are better.

Thanks very much for the link to that thread :)

Doesn't look like there are many problems at all with Vista 64-bit these days, I have even heard people complimenting the speed more often than not.

Think I'll be installing it very soon (Easter holidays and all, so I have time :p), and if everything is stable I'll order another 2GB RAM :)

Thanks
Craig.

hi can somebody help me im having, i have a samsung 37m87 but my pc wont let me set res above 1280x1024 but it should be 1920x1080, i used to be able to select it but cant now, connected via dvi-hdmi

Just a quick question, I went with Vista x64 a month or so ago, maybe a little longer and one thing that annoyed me so much, so much in fact I went back to XP, was the fact that networking/file transfer and copying was horribly slow.

I hear SP1 fixes this, is SP1 available to download yet? as in if I wanted to could I find it on the net and install it?

You can download sp1 from various sources but it goes out tomorrow properly.

File transfer is faster with sp1 but still generally slower than XP, performance and responsiveness of the OS in other tasks while doing a transfer is better on Vista though.
