Nvidia 6800 - Which type?

I've been reading the debate about which is best for AGP - 6800 or X800 series. I'm looking to upgrade from a Geforce4 Ti 4200 (128MB, AGP 8x). I realise that anything on the market now is a marked improvement. Its for gaming more than anything else :)

I've decided to go for a 6800GS, seems the best to get from the 6800s and with more "fancy bits" than the x800. But which is the best type - ocUK, XFX, BFG (seen in the ocUK shop) or other. They all seem to be around the same price. It has to be 256MB+, AGP and under £200.

Any tips? - 6800GS worth it? and which "brand" is best

I'd personally say grab the This Week Only deal on the BFG GeForce 7800 GS OC 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail which is *just* over your budget by £11.44!

Brand wise, any are good. ;) I've bought some XFX stuff for mates, and its fine. I have an ocUK (Point Of View branded) 7800GTX and that's fine!

thanks

I've been looking into things a little more - I have a 400w PSU, do I need to upgrade to 500+ for a 6800 or even X800 card?

If that is the case, I may have to go with a lower card - 6600 and spend the rest of the money on a new psu.

If your PSU is a good make, it doesnt matter how powerful it is really. Im sure it'll be fine.

I went from an Geforce3 Ti200 to a XFX6800GT and am well pleased with it. Had it since they came out (first one to get pictures up here) and have had no probs with it. Defo XFX i'd say!

dilema's now

cool - thanks Feriso for the PSU linky - looks like I went with a great PSU :)

Dilema time - I was all set for the XFX GeForce 6800GS extreme XT edition - around £170 from ocUK, but now there is an ocUK special on the PowerColor ATI X850 XT for around £180. Both are AGP and 256MB.

I've heard excelent reviews and comments for both card types - is the 850 better and worth the extra £10(ish) or does it not matter?

I feel more comfortable with nvidia, but not longer ago, 2 m8s moved to ATI and have raved ever since (moved to 9800s - one from my old card).

Both are under my budget......aaarghh!!! dilema's :)

Might be worth going with an PCIe mobo and an 850XTPE which are cheap atm - this gives you an good upgrade route with PCIe cards at a later date
