i dont play games much but was hoping for some advice on what are the best video settings i should use for my graphics card. What settings and resolutions should i use?

at the moment im playing half life 2 and NFS most wanted and i think the movement should be smoother. Will be trying quake 4 and battlefield 2 next.

is there a guide anywhere that can help me get the best settings for gameplay? Nothing is overclocked as its a htpc i have and i dont have any idea about overclocking.

whats the best way to test or monitor what performance im getting so i know im getting the best out my graphics card

PENTIUM 4 3GHZ CPU
OCZ PC4400 1GB RAM
LEADTEK WINFAST GEFORCE 6800 LE 128mb
SAMSUNG 913N 19" MONITOR

just run 3dmark 2005 free trial and scored 2504 does this sound about right?

If you have a TFT monitor (you have) then you should try and play at its native resolution - that is its highest. At anything lower the image will appear blurry because the screen has a set number of pixels, and the monitor will have to "straddle" images across pixels.

The games you mentioned should be ok on medium settings I reckon.

Quake 4 - Med/High

Battlefield 2 - Medium

Stick another gig of RAM in to get BF2 on all high, and possibly X2 AA.

Can't remember if this is the same guide I used, but my Leadtek is fully pipeline/shader unlocked (never got around to trying to overclock it). Pictorial guide here.

Will help increase your 3D Mark score slightly.

whats was the difference between 6800 and 6800le ?

was it only that the LE had just 8 pipelines ? and the 6800 had 12 ?

when my agp 6800 had all the pipes unlocked it scored 5051 on 3dmark05 under air :D not bad for 128mb of ram agp gfx lol

i loved that card RIP

but use rivatuner to try and unlock your cards pipes .if it works its gives a great boost .

thanks to all for the advice, i tried unlocking the extra pipelines but no joy when i played half life the picture was breaking up.

my card seems only to have 8 pipelines as suggested, i tried it with 12 and 16 but still problems with half life, i used rivatuner and managed to unlock 2 extra vertex units to give me 6.

i have upped the clock speeds to get an improvement.

I'd see if you can offload the card on the bay and pick one up from here, I just bought one which does unlock to 16/6 it also OC's rather sweetly. I paid £45 incl del and given that I sold the 5700 Ultra it replaced for £35 it was a nifty deal.for comparison here's some benchies below

XP2700+ 1 gig 166 fsb PC2700, 80 gig ATA.

5700 Ultra '03 score 3590
5700 Ultra '05 score 835

6800le '03 Score 10789
6800le '05 score 5215

would have thought them details should run half life 2 fine my rig at the moment is

amd 2600xp barton (1.8core)
1gig value ram
x800xl256mb running standard. agp

and i can play half life 2 just fine with the spec i said running at 1280x1024 res. fps 25-50 depending on whats going on.

i dont know how a 6800le compares to my x800xl thouh.
