Bought this as a backup, and temp card til I one day get a card for paying games again.

Just for the hell of it, I tried COD4 and UT3, and was amazed the card could actually handle the games! Of course, I was running lowest settings possible, but the games were playable! COD4 was between 30 and 60 FPS, while UT3 was hanging a little over 40FPS most of the time.

Sort of makes me rethink what I might need when I get another card for gaming. Not really bothered about running things in max settings, so probably not going to have to spend much :D

Anyway, just wanted to share :)

These two games use VERY old engines (although highly modified of course) but essentially they scale really well with old, budget hardware.

COD4 is based on the Quake3 engine still :O

Thay say its a propriety, but its still based upon Q3, although I doubt not much original code still exists.

That isn't what their forums say:

What game engine is used in COD4?
For CoD4, Infinity Ward has created an all-new graphics engine by them selves.

So is it a modified engine and Infinity are lying, or is it a totally new propriety engine.

Im just going by what the majority of others are saying. i.e.#

COD 4 is based of the Quake3 arena engine. Thus it has the same bugs as its predecessor. For example there are
certain "magic" fps figures which will cause rounding bugs to occur and give you certain bonuses. For example at 125 fps
in COD2 the garrand fired faster and you could jump farther and higher. With 250 fps locked the garand fired even faster,
and now you could jump a hell of a lot farther with strafe jumping. With 333 fps you could run silently.

Same aplies to cod4, the higher the fps, the faster the guns fire, especially guns like m14, g3, all the pistols...

At 250fps you can sprint silently and so on.

The engine used for CoD4 is a highly modified Quake3 engine, meaning that is is basically reengineered by IW beyond what Quake3 could normally do. They may change to the new iD Tech engine for CoD6 (provided there is a CoD6) or use another engine (such as Unreal 3 or Crysis).

Anyway, who cares..... it scales well, whatever the truth may be.

I dont think that guy has a clue what he is talking about. It will look faster maybe on your screen, but in real-time the guns will fire the same rate, jumping and running will stay the same also. Its the same for lower FPS. If your playing it at 4fps, you will still fire the same rate, but it will just look really slow and jittery on your screen.

Well its easy to test, as I'm sure many people can get 333fps if they alter their settings, someone should try it.

WTF ? are you off your rocker ? stop sniffing glue!

COD4 has nothing to do with Quake 3`s engine, hell they are about as far removed from each other as you can get. To alter Quake 3`s engine for dynamic lighting, volumetric particles (dust that moves when you walk through it ect ect) and realtime shadows would be an utterly pointless endevour as you wouldnt have an engine left by the end of it, not to mention the fact that i doubt very much it can be done.

If COD4 were going to base itself on an existing engine it would be something along the lines of HL2`s engine. There are some similarities between the looks and feel of counterstrike source and COD4.

and if your looking for proof just look at the base of Quake3 engine (openGL) and the base of COD4 (directX) 2 totally different things.

p.s. to the OP. now overclock your 7300LE to 7300GT speeds :)

Just got it running at 350/400 FPS (didn't look that nice!!), all guns fired the same for me...

Think its just in the mind.

I think u need to cap it at 333 so it doesnt go higher or lower. Probably some console command I guess.

Chances are its rubbish anyway :)

COD4 uses the quake engine in the same way that UT3 uses the same engine from the original.

Hugely modified and modernised versions of a design that worked great before, and still works great now.

The engines retain some features of there original counterparts (console commands throughout all the unreal engine games are the same for example)

And like i said originally, this is why both games still work well with old, budget hardware, as unlike modern engines these old cards still have code paths in the engine that will work good for them.

Could you test it with bf2 for me, Im using a Rage 2 (11 years old) at the moment :o Similar to a 9800pro maybe?
