Hi does anyone know if these cards, especially the passive cooled flavour require
external power ? Some of the pictures show what looks like a 4 pin molex connectors

thanks

i installed a 7600GS last night (mine is a clocked version so uses same power as 7600gt) no external power required

Im running on a 350w PSU :)

Hope that helps

Thanks Ben, Ok it worked fine without the external power but was there a connector and was it optional ?

I selected to Use a couple of these cards as they have the lowest Power/performance requirements and they are going in power limited SFF (small form factor) media center PC's with limited PSU's
My theory is an underclocked powerfull card will perform better than a lesser model and use less power !

pretty good theory on using the low power cards bud, they should work a treat and have plenty of kick in reserve if needed.

Mine didnt have any kind of power connector at all. 100% mobo fed :)

Funny, one of them gust turned up (PCIX) and no power connector but the buggers have put a double slot mounting bracket....didn't show that in the picture, may be slightly screwed for space.

Yes always liked the Idea of big engines running easy so too speak, in this case You get the architecture gains for free.. ;)

Well, a few smoke's...big decisions unless anyone knows of a passive cooled 7600GS with a smaller Heatsink than the Gainward 512mb version..It's the Bandsaw.. What the hell ! fortune favours the brave.......apparently.
It only toches everywhere !!!..so I can't even get it in position to measure up the Mods, these are big cards !

There's 2 versions of the 7300gt, a low clocked DDR2 version and a much higher clocked DDR3 version that totally outpeforms the DDR2 version.

yeah there is a galaxy model that is like my 7600GS, runs on 1.2ns DDR memory and is pretty rapid indeed! 3.5k in 3dm '05 or summin :)

Check out the Links I posted Minstadave...that Gainward passive cooled 7300gt does not exist, not on gainwards site !!
+ look at the suposed temps in the review......God what I would really like to say about reviewers... :D :D

So it does actually exist? Temps don't look bad at all :)

Yeah,,,,bloody marvelous for a overclocked passive cooled card :D :D

What they don't say was it was on the bench directly under the air conditioner ;)

Well Done it, took about 10 hours !
dropped the cooler down the card about 15mm, drilled and tapped new 3mm mounting holes, reshaped about 10 fins (cast aluminum good fun) dremeled 3/4 cutouts, chopped down the twin slot mount etc etc
Finaly lapped the cooler and touched up all the machined parts with a red marker pen (to restore my warrenty) :D Lets hope the next piece of this PC fit a little smoother,

quick tests show 56c max GPU temp.....I am very happy :D
runs all the tests in 3D2006 2130points@ 1280x1024 and 12v rail (250w psu) holds steady
