Hello guys,

Im looking at the 770 GTX, Is it worth paying the extra for the 4gb version ? Finding it hard to see any reviews showing the different

Thanks guys

I had a 680 FTW 4GB, same card basically.

I am sure it can use more than 2GB but not 4GB so in between.

If single card and very high res +AA then the GPU may give out before VRam but better for SLI.

What RES and settings do you want to run?

2GB or 4GB should be fine for 1080p-1200p in most games bar a few at 1200p but IMO some of recent games and near future games are too much for a single 680/770.

What card do you have now and what is Max budget?

I currently have the 580GTX with i through was still pulling its weight until i ran a 3d mark and checked out a few newer cards. Was surprised at how much of a diffrents it makes. I would love to keep the cost below £300 but will go over if i need to.

I will be buying a cheap sniper mobo with a 4770k next week so the board is sli ready at least.

Do not follow, its 6GHZ on 680 or 7GHZ on 770 which is not slow.

My issue is the GPU cannot use all 4GB as it does not have the power.

Are you sure you do not mean the Memory Bus Width?

you know the memory bus and Hertz of the RAM directly affects total bandwidth of the RAM? Since its 256 you wont get fast RAM no matter the clocks, i dont care if you get 1700-2000MHz out of it, its still slow because of the width.

You want the total bandwidth, not the clocks.

And yes, the GPU isnt strong enough to work with all 4gb, and neither can the RAM lol

Well if you say what you mean instead of me 2nd guessing it. :)

Also the lower bitrate though in this case a bit too low (should have been 384) does not matter as much for GDDR5 then before on GDDR3 because it is Quad Pumped so 6GHZ's baseclock is only 1.5GHZ.

What jh30 is getting at (I think) is that at that res the 7ghz vram somewhat offsets the low 256bit bus. Bus and vram speed have a large bearing on bandwidth throughput

Though if your budget is circa £300 you should really be looking at something like a custom cooled 290, they regularly drop to the £320-330 mark.

I would save up for the 780. I have a 770 2gb and at 1080p it suits me fine. I dont play BF4 and future games dont concern me so I see no reason at the moment to go for more than 2gb VRAM.

It depends on what games you play. If you want to future proof it then go for a 780 (or 290 if you want AMD) unless you can get a 770 for £200 or less its not worth it really.

I went into the store and they talked me into the 4 gb 770 from gigabyte with the 3 fans :( could always sli it couldn't I? Makes it the same price as the 780 ti. Remember when I brought the 580 it was better to but two 570 than one 580 and cheaper. Showing my age :)

Ref Cooler is better for SLI, those will blow air all over the place and 1 onto the other.

Why would you buy 2 if you mentioned a 780Ti which will be more consistent in games that SLI is not so good with and you can add another down the line.

Some guy a few weeks back in a thread like this bought 2x 770 2GB's to SLI, at same price as the 780Ti was on the deal that week, IMO madness.

i got 4 gig one and i can say games like thief , hitman , battlefield4 all use more then 2 gig of memory , is it worth it, depends on how much extra it cost , for me was only 10 ~15 £ extra , also when i sold the games card worked out for 240~ 250 £.

Ya well. Sure the card will last 3 or 4 years. I'll get my money's worth and buy a 990 :)

Thanks for the advise. Sorry for coursing an argument lol

Did not see any, some guy in 2 threads off topic going on about bus width though.

Think he has just been reading about it and new fangled with it.

I will state in all these multiple 770 threads, "its a rehashed 680 can you afford a 2nd hand 780".

I went from a 680 4GB to a 780Ti so kind of have an idea.
