So with the Titan coming out soon and being stupidly priced, is anything on the wind regarding the 780 GTX/whatever the 680 replacement is?

Few people have banded about mid-year release, of late with nVidia a "mid-year" release usually ends up more November but IMO more likely this time around as otherwise its going to be coming up on Maxwell.
 
Right I see.

I was told by the other half that I could have a new gpu for Christmas/birthday as the 480 SOC is getting a little long in the tooth, and then NVidia pulled what the did with the Titan...

I can't see the point in spending the best part of £400 on the 680 for it to be replaced a few months later.
 
the only rumour I've read on a hardware news type website said Q4 2013, not mid year
at least that's what I've banked on in buying Titans lol :D

where did you get the mid year from Rroff?
