Nvidia 7900GS and 3D Mark Problem

Hi all,

I've just bought an OCUK 7900GS 256, and I noticed a bit of a strange thing while running 3D Mark 05 (and 06). When the "canyon run" sequence is displayed, the ship is not rendered properly. In some shots it is just a mass of large triangles and the like, this is mainly in the close ups. The rest of the tests are rendered correctly, as far as I can see. As is the the shots in the canyon that are not close up.
I running 93.71 drivers, tho' it did the same thing with the prevoius drivers. It's PCI-E running on an Asrock 775 VSTA mobo, which restricts the PCI-E to 4X.
Anyone else noticed this.
Also, the VDO tool that is supplied with the card has a function to requlated the fan speed. This does not seem to have any effect, again anyone else experienced this?

yes I have noticed this to, what scores are you getting in 3dmark 05,
I am getting the better side of 9300. But every game I play is perfect so I don't worry about what is happning in a benchmark tool must say I don't get any problems with 03.
And the card over clocks to core speeds of 660 amd mem 1600 but I run my card at 600 and 1400.
driver version 96.89

Just follow up on this thread, most games are playing fine. Although I noticed the "shards" again in Counter Strike and also in some of my planetsoft screen savers.
I've tried quite a few driver versions and the like, all the same. I really do wonder if there is something up with this card.

Anyone got any more input?

Dunno mate, can't find your post. They look like triangles sticking out of something that should be rendered.
Also I have noticed that when you run an Nvidia test on standard clock speeds, it fails. I'm wondering if this motherboard has got something to do with it.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Some screens, good and bad.

You couldn't see my post because I am an idiot!

Have put it on the previous post now, but the first two images show a similar thing to what I am getting I think.

Another update,

I found a post on another forum mentioning problems with "PCI-E downstream" setting in the bios.
I disabled this option and now there is no corruption. WOOOHOOO!!!

Hi Normski,

I don't know what else I can add, I'm not sure if this setting is unique to my mobo (Asrock 775 VSTA).
The setting is found the in the advanced tab of the the bios setup, below all the AGP aperture size stuff etc.
Simply disabling the "PCI downstream" setting cured the problem.
Interestingly enuff, I tried the Nvidia overclocking util to see if it made any difference. It still failed at a fraction over any stock setting. Prolly the mobo on that score.
I'm hoping to get a different mobo when funds allow.
