nVidia 7950 GX2s @ OcUK!

man...im tempted allready!

Why do these companies continue to temp us with newer stuff all the time...its like every 3 months now!

But the benchmarks do look good....1.5 times the performance of my 1900XTX..hmmmm

I've already got one mate!

I'll let you know how well it performs.

Agent.

I asked this before, but what happens if you run a game with no-sli support (no profile or can't be made), or a game that performs slower in sli then using a single gpu (HL2 according to the Toms Hardware). Does you 7950GX2 perform like a 7900GT then, thereby running slower then a single 7900GTX or 1900XT ?

Thats one of the points I was angling at too Flanno.
Just had a quick look at the reviews which some seem to show it outperforming SLi set-ups which might mean its not going to need SLi profiles to work ?
Then I saw the pics ! .... its just 2 PCB's mounted together lol, not all on one, bit of a bodge job IMO

Notice the "IMO" :p
I dont intend to start a flame fest ;)

To be honest in a way its for bragging rights and nothing more, the 7900gtx and x1900 series are neck a neck in most games, so nvidia brought this out and claim its the fastest "single card" when obviously its not a single card at all. If they had done a voodoo 5 job and had 2 cores on the 1 pcb then yeah thats a single card, but not this setup.

If i was on the hunt for a new card id get one, but ive already got a dfi 3200 mobo and x1900xtx so no point for me when i can go crossfire.

/starts wiggling fingers about in a mysterious fashion

you must buy
you must buy
YOU MUST BUY

:p

You might actually be on to something there.

OCUK could use that advert space at the top right as a subliminal portal. Flashing up things like "BUY 7950 GX2 or a clown will murder you at 3am"

Had a read of the OcUk page:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/7950_Series.html

Cracked me up - someone had some fun with the ol' cut and paste but forgot to change the names in the relevant places:

BFG GeForce 7950 GX2 1024MB...
Only from Gainward

But wait, apparently it's:

Only from Leadtek
Only from XFX

Oh well -that's what happens when you get overexcited - on a side note - not a bad price for 2x7900's, especially for those of use with old school CRT's capable of those kinds of resolutions :D

Still want to try one of those with the new Matrox Triple Head 2go - roll on the multi-screen madness. Gigabyte have been offering this stuff since the 6800 days and it always seemed to work on a par with standard SLi cards, but only taking up half the space - they were outrageously expensive, so nice to see the pricing sorted - let's get some benchies with 2 of these in SLi!

its not worth it, too expensive and DX10 cards just around the corner,

Bring on DX10....

LOL @ the guy with £1500 ready, I have £670... by the end of this year its £1300.. thats all I need for next Gen graphics

They might be just around the corner but when will games start to utalise it..?

Agent.

On COD2, 3 frames more (average) than the ATI 1900XT-X @1600x1200 with 4AA/4AF seems a bit low (Pcperspectice) - would have expected more than than

DX10 will be out as soon as vista is on the shelves, and throughout next year DX10 compatible games will be released (afaik)

AAAAAAAARGH!! SOLD!

:D

Noooooooo!! Don't fall for the magic finger!! Just wait it out!

Buying a 7950 is just as bad as buying the intel (955) 3.46Ghz dual core extreme edition around £600+, when the conroe release is a matter of weeks away!

from what I've seen of these, when they are in Quad SLI format they are very disappointing. Even crossfire (2 cards as opposed to 4) beats them on many benchmarks. There are also problems with Quad SLI in Oblivion at present that makes thr game run at a poor fps. If you are using one on its own though itll probably be alright.

good question Agent, UT2007, and Crysis are example of DX10 game,

UT2007 developers are already working on a patch which convert the game from DX9 to 10. Crysis is fully DX10 and it supports DX9,

buttom Line:
Agent, there are few games are starting (already started using DX10).

Edit: did I mention Stalker ?... the team behind it stated in an interview dated two months ago, they are already started working on a seperate patch which adds DX10 support for stalker.

Don't the new nvidia beta drivers support quad sli

From PC Perspective
"For end-users in the enthusiast market, the current NVIDIA answer is that they will not support Quad SLI due to driver issues and specific motherboard and BIOS tweaks that are necessary. The release 90 drivers will not be disabling Quad SLI though, so if you are gutsy and have some extra cash, you can still play around with Quad SLI by purchasing two cards beforehand. "

So it sounds like what is holding quad sli back for a pair of 7950's is mobo bios support, and the small matter of your board supporting 32x pci lanes like the Asus A8N32 or P5N32 Sli-Deluxe.

On the question of heat, if the bottom core gets up to 90 degrees, then how are you going to cool it, especially if quad sli is sorted and you end up with 2x7950's !!

<edit>As for quad sli performing poorly (referring to 7900gx2's here), isn't that down to cpu limitation. Once you start playing games at 2034x1600 or some other crazy resolution with a suiitably overclocked cpu - won't quad sli leave everything else in the dust</edit>
