Is it worth buying an 8800 for physx? i have a 5870 and wondered if this would improver performace on nvidia optimized games (such as mafia 2). i can get one for £50.00. also i have a 850w psu. im pretty sure this should be ok.

a 8800gt 512mb is around £35 in the members market and that includes delivery, dont spend £50 on one.

in fact I paid £37.50 for a 9800gt for Physx from there.

so you would recommend getting a cheap nvidia card for physix stulid?

i would recommend getting a 8800gt or 9800gt for £40 or less, not £50.

and you know that for the physx to work you will have to use some hacked up drivers? as nvidia have blocked the use of it when a ATI card is detected.

oh ok, thought it would help on most games that say nvidia optimized such as tropico, crysis etc. I would like it for mafia 2 as it does look much better with pysx enabled but i drop to around 25-30 fps when set on medium with my current set up

yeah i know that but thanks anyway man. So i presume once installed i just download drivers for it then install the hack? im just hoping for a cheap way to improve performance, also feel the need to fiddle with my set up for some reason!

It definitely helps make mafia 2 smoother.

with pysx enabled it displays more effects as well. never been totally bothered up until this point. on the other hand i was hoping to cross fire at some point so having 2 5870's and an 8800 for pysx would be too much for my psu id imagine

nVidia optimised and PhysX aren't the same thing, for example Crysis doesn't use PhysX.
