QUOTED :

" Maskmoney from itocp.com release a brief test report of NVIDIA unannounced GeForce 8800 GS Graphics Card.

Base on NVIDIA G92 architecture, GeForce 8800 GS Graphics Card embraces 96 stream processors, 48 Texture Filtering Units and 48 Texture Addressing Units,12 ROPs and 192-bit 384MB GDDR3 video memory.

We learn that GeForce 8800 GS was pre-known as GeForce 8700,and NVIDIA didn’t want it to overlap with GeForce 8800GTS product line, thereby allows sufficient time for manufacturers to assimilate inventory, but faced with the steadily aggression from RV670, NVIDIA changed strategy, GeForce 8700 will actually to be GeForce 8800GS, and only for OEM market.

But AIC manufactures of NVIDIA will introduce GeForce 8800 GS graphics cards to retail market also; GeForce 8800 GS retail price will be $149-$179. "

Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS rumored and tested

QUOTED:

"Just when you'd think that the GeForce 8 series has done its part and i getting ready to slowly exit the stage and leave it for the 9th generation a new G92, GeForce 8800 card is now rumored to be in the works at Nvidia HQ. Initially called GeForce 8700 the upcoming card would be named GeForce 8800 GS upon release early next year and will be aimed at the OEM market although some manufacturers are planning to release these cards through the retail chain.

The 8800 GS name has already appeared this past Spring in the ForceWare 158.19 driver but it is only 2008 when we'll actually get to see such cards. Powered by the 65nm-constructed G92 chip the 8800 GS is said to have a 192-bit memory interface, 384 MB of GDDR3 memory, PCI-Express 2.0 certification and frequencies set to 575, 1438 and 1700 MHz for the GPU, shaders (all 96 of them) and memory.

Furthermore, the card has even sparked a few test pictures and the scores returned by it, on an Intel Q6000 @ 2995 MHz system were of 16661 in Futuremark's 3DMark05 and of 9540 in 3DMark06. The GeForce 8800 GS' suggested price tag hovers between $149 and $179. Now we just need to see the real thing. "

Awww back to normal i guess. Just like the old 7 series days. Lots of cards in the same group e.g 8800 and 7900. Oh the joys. :p

Just means they are using 2 less memory chips?

Obviously only having 96 SP's is gonna hurt performance though :( but hey, if it's cheap :)

I don't understand the point in this card.
From the $ price given I doubt we'll see it in rip off Britain for under £100, in which case buying a 512mb 3850 or a 256mb 8800GT would be a better option?
I mean fair enough to keep it as OEM but why bother releasing it as a retail card?

Great news, think price will be a bit lower than that though. Both of the companies really are bringing value for money now :D
