Nvidia 9000 series news

if they release at the price stated their (about £80 quid) it will surely be a hit, but i recon it's gonna be about £150

spec's seem good though for a low-mid end card

I wouldn't write ati off so soon, they've got some nice gear out at the moment, (cost effective, not power hungry, nice performance) and the crossfire is very promising due to scalability and certainly a better option than sli atm. We desperately need ati to give nvidia a good run for their money to keep the prices down and drive the technology on. All these new cards are using current architecture, not next gen.

It does seem that crossfire is better than sli.

Shame cos two of those 9600gt's at 80 quid each would be great value if SLI did what it says on the tin.

its not that much better, not as much as many would believe. there were some proper comparison benchmarks with the 2 on it, and although xfire was in the lead it wasnt by any large margin.

and these things will be priced pretty high i reckon. new series name, just gives them an excuse to crank up the release price for a couple of months

3870xt in crossfire beats 8800gt in sli, in crysis by 10fps!

These cards are currently the same price.

3890/3870X2 intrests me far more than the 9800 series personally...

Same here.

Also don't forget that ATi is probably the best chance everyone in this thread has of keeping the 9800GTX under £500.

I'm willing to pay 500£ for a graphics card that will last me as long as the 8800GTX has done for the people that bought it at launch?

One of the biggest factors is hopefully ati will have the performance to make nvidia realise that they have to keep their prices competitive, otherwise we're looking at extortionate pricing for not even next gen cards.

Alas for the hardcore enthusiast this is an update akin to the AMD 3000-series, in that all the cards are revisions of the current architecture, as opposed to a whole new design :(

Well thats a shame, the 9 series is just another 8 series refresh then, but they are doing what ATi done, releasing their old cards again but with new names, so the 8800 GTX is coming out again under the name 9800 GT.

So what about the 9800GTX? New card or revision?

Sounds like a refresh, as it says there that all the cards are just revisions, its very confusing, i just can't see why they are going to bring out new cards on over 1 year old architecture, means the 9 series are over a year old already, and they aint even been released yet.

If so id put it down to AMD/ATi's fault that they are slowing down, as lack of competition means Nvidia don't have to release new cards yet, as there is no point if AMD/ATi can't get anywhere near their 1 year old cards yet.

Could be why that 8 series X2 card is gona be called the 9800GX2 as well, even though its 2x 8 series slapped together.

Off Hardocp.
# GeForce 8800 Ultra will be replaced by the GeForce 9800 GX2 in February / March timeframe. More information and pictures are here.

# The GeForce 8800 GTX will be replaced by the GeForce 9800 GTX in February / March timeframe. This card will support Tri-SLI.

# The GeForce 9800 GT should appear in the March / April timeframe. We have limited information on this card currently.

# The recently “released” GeForce 8800 GS will be a limited GPU in terms of production. Do not expect more than 100,000 GPUs to be shipped worldwide, but soon. ASUS will supply Asia, Palit will supply China, EVGA will supply North America, and XFX will supply Europe. The GS is an “inventory solution.” The 8800 GS is 192-bit bus and will ship in 320MB, 512MB, and 640MB versions with a trimmed down number of stream processors as well. Will fall in line below 8800 GT but above the 9600 GT.

# The GeForce 9600 GT will fall in line below the 8800 GT, but give better performance than the GeForce 8600 GTS. The 9600 GT will be a whole new card not based on the 8800 GT PCB. Price point should be at $169 in retail/etail and plans are to carry this GPU throughout 2008.

Well the 9800 GX2 aint new, its 2x G92 GTS's, which are old 8 series.

G92 is just 1 year old G80 on a smaller die, they shrunk G80 down to 65nm and called em G92's, just like ATi shrunk their old R600's down to 55nm, and called em R680's, but they also gave em the new name of 3800's, Nvidia just stuck with the 8 series monikor as they were doing so well, was no need for them to change the name from 8800's, but looks like they are now to 9 series, if this is true its a ******* joke, anyone who buys over 1 year old tech wants their ******* heads read, i wont be, **** that, no way am i buying a G80 thats over 1 year old on a smaller die, but called a 9800 instead. :D

Looks like the real deal will be the G100, may as well wait for that, already got an 8 series. :D:D
