"IDF 2007: New codename scheme, again
We wrote about D8E in June and you can read about it here. It is a mainstream card that Nvidia plans to reveal in November. The high end part won't be codenamed G92 and it will be known as D8E where D stands for Desktop, 8 for the eight generation and finally E as an Enthusiast.
D8E and D8V where V stands for Value comes in November while the high end part will be pushed in early 2008.
The cards support Display Port, PCIe 2.0 and DirectX 10.1 and it is the 65 nanometre part."

Think I might hold off on getting a 8800 GTX then. Only a couple of months to go...

If those performance claims are true, then it'll be a stonking card!

Oh and I just saw the last bit from another forum so don't take my word for it, it's just a rumour. But I hope it's true.

These new Nvidia cards, when they are out etc is driving me nuts. All this info is a load of tosh, i want information from a reliable source not aload of rubbish made up. :rolleyes:

And why? What is your foundation? Wasn't the 8800 GTX twice as fast as Nvidia's previous top end card?

I fail to understand why people on this forum doubt that a next gen gfx card can be twice as quick as the card it's replacing. Just cause the 8800 GTX/Ultra is really fast doesn't mean that a faster gfx card cannot be made.

In my experience, except for a few lemon releases, gfx cards have always being twice as fast as the top card it was replacing for years.

Otherwise why are the latest gfx cards 6 - 8 times quicker than my top of the range X800XT pe from three and half years ago?

No chance it will be anywhere near as twice as fast, the 8800 was a complete departure from the previous technology and blew it away, i cant see the new cards being radically different from the 8800 series and therefor performance will be up but were not talking 7800gtx to ultra gap.

I doubt its twice as fast also because its not been two years since the last card came out unless they do dual core gpu now or something

I doubt there will be a huge speed increase.

Usually we are drip fed technology.

Although the speed increase form 7900 to 8800 was significant with IQ increase aswell

Well, looking at the reported specs with number of transistors, processing power etc, if they turn out to be true then it should be twice as quick.

And how much faster was the 7800 GTX over it's predessor? I bet it was close to twice as fast.

Gfx performance approximately doubles each new generation( well after the drivers settle down that is). Has happened for years and I see no reason why it won't continue.

Nvidia usually launches the next top end card one year apart. We are only late cause they don't need to since ATI have failed to compete.

No they don't, I don't know where this urban myth comes from, but historically they've released a new top end card every 15-18months or so, certainly not within 1 year.

The reason I say 2 years is because of moores law. I doubt nvidia is going to double their gpu top end power unless they have some remarkable advance in technology we havent heard of .

We're all estimating but the most accurate method is just to follow the trend of previous releases, twice the power in 14 months or whatever is unlikely

In all honesty the current 8800 cards and 2900 series suck in dx10.To me it is feasible that the next gen cards will produce playable framerates.In all honesty less than 40-50 fps in full glory is a let down. Nvidia, Ati, please deliver something decent. I dont wanna wait years for the next 7900gtx if you get my drift(dx9 top card years to deliver)
