I recently built a new setup which included the OcUK GeForce 9800 GT 512MB GDDR3...

Any game i have tried to play has run for about 5 mins before the computer crashes and shuts down.

Research has suggested that it may be down to my PSU not providing enough ampage through the 12v Rail. My PSU is the OCZ StealthXStream 500w Silent ATX2 which claims to have 18Amps on the 12v... which is not the 28A that i have read the GT9800 requires.

Has anyone got any suggestions? Do you think this is the reason my computer is crashing? any suggestions on that?

If i have to get a different PSU, can anyone recommend one that will run the 9800GT but for a lowish price... i'm stuck with this 500W PSU now as chucked the box :-(

Any ideas appreciated.

Yeah it does sound like the PSU, 18amps is far to low, and the shutting down is a good indicator, means it cant supply enough to the card, so when it supplys all it can, it will just shut off as it can't give anymore.

What budget did you have in mind for a PSU ?

That psu should be more than enough it has 2 x 12 volt rails @ 18 amps each.

What i built...

So here is what i put together... if that helps?

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition"2.40GHz
Asus P5QL Pro Intel P43 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache
Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black)
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz
Nvidia 9800gt
Akasa AK-ZEN-01-WH Rev.4 Zen Case
OCZ StealthXStream 500w Silent ATX2 Power Supply

I've installed the latest drivers for my card as well, every time i start a game it either freezes with weird colours on screen and then shuts down OR just shuts down.

The nVidia 28A requirement is total for the whole system, allowing plenty of headroom for the card, not for the card itself. You have dual rails, +12V1 is exclusively for your CPU (the 4pin/8pin motherboard plug) the +12V2 is for everything else, 18A should be fine as you don't have zillions of HDD's etc. The card isn't overheating is it?
