Nvidia Acceleration h.264

I use Power DVD 7 with purevideo selected & it works a treat with HD stuff :)

Yeah it's fine if I use the PowerDVD player but if I use WMP then CPU usage is much higher.

Have you tried the MP clasic which is part of the Qucktime alternative package? I haven't got any non-qucktime h.264 clips but it is much better at playing HD than WMP10 or MCE.

buy an ATI card ;) :D :p *plays back HD clip in MP10 nearly no CPU usage* lol

(really not starting a flame war, jus avin a laugh and giggle ! lol)

Really, well when I get back from work later ill post a pic 2 show you its working on mine no problems what so ever, in Media Player 10 I get very little cpu usage playing pack a HD file

I personally have problems with PowerDVD7.

Tried it on a 6600GT, 7900GT and 7900GTO.

If I select Hardware (Purevideo) and try to use hardware deinterlacing (meaning I have to enable read-it-clearly) it looks terrible, with flickering text on menus etc. With no deinterlacing it looks.... well, like it has no deinterlacing ;) Playing a DVD back with WMP10 and Purevideo looks LOADS better.

Also, trying to play back any DivX/Xvid (in PowerDVD 7) results in a black screen, and the program freezing.

Apart from standard DVD and DivX, other stuff, inc. highdef looks great in it though ;p

V1N.

WMP 10 will play mpeg2/wmv HD without a problem. The issue is h.264 encoded stuff which it has problems with

Er, use a mac ;)

I'd recommend you consider laughing off GPU acceleration and just get CoreAVC. I know it's not what you want, but surely the end result is more important than how you get it...

I know what you're saying but all just slightly annoys me with all this blurb from Nvidia about h.264 this/and/that that it just doesn't seem to work!

Problem is my build is pretty old now and I've had some many codec's installed etc. that I think it all gone a bit smelly ;)

It does work & it works very well.
When it doesnt work it isnt Nvidias fault, it's because the program doesnt support it properly. We all know it works because PowerDVD 7 uses if very nicely indeed (from what I have found, thats what I use). You cant blame Nvidia if MS decide to make Media player not 100% support it etc...
