A week or two ago we reported that there are some end-users out there that have their GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE break down. An investigative hunt on the web with many theories was the end result. NVIDIA now has made a small statement.

The company claims that the problems at hand are due to 'limited test escapes' which is indicating bad or defective parts on the PCB. Nvidia writes that the problems with the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition are based on early product batches, denoting 'early boards'. That also indicates that the problem (whatever the cause is) was solved with the current batches.

They've found malfunctioning parts that had not been discovered by the QA teams it seems. That could be resistors or capacitors, but many believe its the GDDR6 memory reaching too high temperatures. Some troublesome end-users even have reported that downclocking the GDD6 memory made the problems go away. NVIDIA is not going into specifics and details as to why and how users run into problems.

Here's what NVIDIA wrote in their forums:

Limited test escapes from early boards caused the issues some customers have experienced with RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition. We stand ready to help any customers who are experiencing problems.
