Nvidia and Adaptive V-Sync

Very new to Nvidia and I thought I would try this Adaptive V-Sync did not see any real change to be honest but the next night of gaming I noticed every now and then a slight pause/stutter comes and goes fairly quick.

Now on top of this I started to get crashes lock-up in BF2 which had been playing very well a couple of nights ago (4 complete lock-up's) re-boot computer.
Forgetting I had set this Adaptive V-Sync on and reading an article in a forum regarding games stuttering using Adaptive V-Sync, Oh OK so I put V-Sync back to game dependent and yes games now do not have any stuttering at all :) great and so far so good in BF2 no system lock-ups.

I thought it might have been the weather but cards are around late60's on temp.

Does anyone have tips or tricks when using Nvidia cards they would like to share?

Also GPU usage in GPU-z (please see sig for spec) When running COD Black Ops usage is around 45-60% when on BF2 & BF3 usage is up to about 65-90% does this mean that some games are better than others at usage? low usage is better? or high usage is better?

yeah that's one thing i thought was nice about Adaptive vsync is the smoothness of the frames and gets rid of stutter but it screens tears that's the only bad thing. Another good thing is if games are capped at 30fps like dead space 3 for example Adpative vsync gets rid of that and caps it at 60 fps. I recently moved back to AMD because the nvidia drivers just now are terrible. what nvidia card have you got?

That's the thing Adaptive V-Sync was giving me stuttering or very short pausing in games but this is on a 144Hz monitor not sure if that's something to do with it?

The card is a Gigabyte GTX770 Windforce 3 stunning card :eek:
 
There are strange issues with kepler cards, If you look into it V-sync, Game Sync and DirectX Sync are all different :rolleyes:

I would have thought Your fast monitor would have helped with some of the issues but it sounds like you have 2 GFX cards so maybe other sync problems.

Single card sync/tear can be mostly worked around by a frame limiter set say at 58hz on a 60hz monitor and maybe 116hz for a 120hz monitor.

Some of the issues may well be new cards are capable of higher fps than most hardware the games were developed on so not sorted out, that and the fact lots of people don't even see frame stutter :D and that soggy mouse feel is partially replaced with harsh digital rendering.

Finally, never once seen Active sync do anything useful for me

Only a single card here, The monitor is ultra smooth that's for sure I don't see any tearing at all I was just pointing out that Adaptive V-Sync seems to induce a bit of stuttering/lagging or just very very short pausing.

:D If you have no tearing why did you want to use Sync ?

It is well documented V-Sync will cause Lag ;)
 
Essentially adaptive V-Sync just syncs fps above refresh and does nothing below....that's the theory ;)

Yes this is correct, but what is does do great is smooth's out the drops in frame rate.
Without Dynamic vsync and playing bf3 when frame rate drops you really do feel it, but with dynamic vsync it smoother out the drops for me anyway.

So with = smoother frames
Without = frame rate lag.
