i was wondering why don't nvidia let intel support sli in their chip sets? i thought intel owned nvidia.

Exactly. SLi is the one feature that makes nForce chipsets really attractive.
Anyway, if AMd does let nVIDIA produce chipsets for them, the AMD platform may become more competitve... Especially if AMD locks Crossfire into their own platforms.
Intel without Dual GPU support would look a lot less attractive to many people.
