but only in mobile form. :p

Nvidia’s 40nm notebook stuff is DirectX 10.1 and you can expect very good performance per watt, something that is very important for notebook users. Many Calpella notebooks will jump for Nvidia’s 40nm as Calpella has to have discrete graphics to work as its P55 mobile chipset doesn’t have any integrated graphics.

sadly hardly anything takes advantage of it (thanks to nvidia)

Q4 is going to be so exciting for videocards (does that make me a nerd?)

dx10.1 should, for the future, be useful as once dx11 gets going(because it won't be neutered for Nvidia again) it should use most of the features, but then, intergrated = crap for gaming so who really gives a crap.

But considering the design cycles are so long, the dx10.1 planned features(originally basically dx10 as it was) was clearly supposed to be in this whole cycle of cores for Nvidia, just they had to yank stuff out of the 280gtx because it simply didn't work.

Its a shame we've had a year with neutered games/cards because dx10 was changed, if MS had some balls ATi's 4XXX series would have just done that much better.

Not sure what benefit a laptop chip can get out of DX10.1 when even the enthusiast parts struggle to play DX10 games fluidly.

Not really sure what benefits dx10 gave us either. The best game graphics wise was crysis which could be run in dx9 faster and look just as good as dx10. dx10.1 shows off what games could have been like as the gains in fps that are shown on ati cards are around 20% but because nvidia could not get it working we all never seen the benefits. I hope that dx11 is a real step forward like dx10 was supposed to be.

Its mainly ATI cards that would benefit from DX10.1 anyhow - most of those things ATI showed off with 10.1 that get a 20% gain - still run faster on nVidia cards in DX10.

Theres very little in DX10.1 that developers have a need for at this time - by the time it changes and we have hardware that can really make proper use of it, hopefully everything will support DX11 anyhow.

Dx10 didn't give us anything thanks to Nvidia, as they had the spec changed, they had it dumbed down for them, so lets all give a big thanks to the *****.

They did it to prove to everyone they could have made dx10.1 chips at any time.
Developers wont be happy.

but they couldn't make them at any time thats the point, this chip will have been in the design stages at least 18 months ago, probably on the internal road map for well over 2 years. Thats well into the design time for the 280gtx, you can be certain that the 280gtx WAS supposed to be well, what is now dx10.1, (but used to be called dx10) and they couldn't get parts working so had MS kill dx10 as it was known and turned it into the crap it is today.

The thing is, developers should absolutely hate Nvidia and turn on them badly, because in essense companies that were working on a dx10 engine for their games for years, wasted their time as dx10 brought very little to the table when it finally came out and thats all down to Nvidia. If dx10 was released as it originally was, pretty much all dx10 games would run faster than dx9 making it a worthwhile investment. in loads of games the money spent on extra people to make a dx10 and dx9 engine, was basically wasted, though I guess the experience was invaluable as most people that dabbled in dx10 will be very well versed in dx10.1/11 for the next games.

:p

Nvidia will start with mobile chips and afterwards, towards Q3 and later, it will release discrete desktop chips that will support DirectX 10.1 API.

After years of preaching how bad this is, Nvidia finally decided to include this API and this proves the fact which ATI has been stating for a while now - that DirectX 10.1 is actually better than DirectX 10.

Can you make a single post without knocking ATI?

Try it, you may like it!

I was stating a fact, in context with the posts above...

Please don't add to my collection of trolls chasing me around the forum acting like children every time I say the slightest bad thing about ATI no matter how valid or not it might be.

Coz if you actually bothered to read a broad range of my posts you would see my view are fairly balanced even if they are somewhat slanted against ATI I'm not running around trying to put them down at every single opportunity and infact have good things to say about them as often as I put them down - which for some reason people turn a blind eye to - but the search feature will show to be true.

Well most people still vividly remeber the whole assassins creed thing where the 10.1 patch bought good performance gains for ati but not for nvidia who then used their influence to get the patch taken out. It is that sort of thing that is going to be held against nvidia as they might have done that a few times or only the once but we all know they did it once.
