*****Nvidia at GDC 2015*****

5 years in the making... for bunging a brand new chip in a cheap plastic chassis? Another Nvidia hyperbolic letdown... as usual nobody calling them out on it, they will slide like always.

Fantastic, will be grabbing one of these for sure. This is what separates NVidia from the also-rans, they keep pushing, developing and actually bringing out technology to use.

Nvidia have pushed and developed nothing here, they have brought 'technology' out though, for 5 years this is appaling in my eyes as the market is now saturated and it's not exactly a massive seller. Valve are already making the right decisions, essentially the same thing for $140 cheaper. They should stick to the GPU world where they do very well.

Unless the next iteration of Nvidia GPU's are going to dominate 4k, and we're somehow going to be able to lag free stream 4k across WiFi then I don't see this being anything special.

Am I missing something?

Pushing ? Well they were working on it for 5 years and working with developers so that their games were compatible with the system.

Developing ? Well they did develop the unit.

Bringing out tech ? Yes they have (as you mentioned too)

Also-rans ? Well I dont see any of their direct competitors having the same sort of success NVidia has at the moment.

Troll - Everything I said was all factual, where is the trolling part to that statement ?

Couldn't give a monkeys about Origin tbh :p

LambChop, you should give multi quote a try, it's ace!

I think you do a grand job in the many nVidia threads.....

The event isn't over yet guys either and I believe it runs till the 6th? Might be something for all of us announced come the end but yer, I was a little disappointed if that was the big gaming 5 year thingy (speaking from a personal perspective of course).

NVidia said they are bringing out new tech but they haven't its just a refresh of 100 other similar console. NVidia said they are redefining gaming but there is absolutely nothing new and nothing to redefine gaming. What success are you talking about? Tegra has been nothing but a big fail causing a massive loss and shrinking by 50% last time I looked. All NVidia have done is given us another under powered console at over priced prices. In fact Shield worse then the other boxes as shield means you have to pay am monthly fee to use it.

5 year reason from the horses mouth....

GamesBeat: Why did Nvidia five years to bring this to market?

Huang: We had to get our Nvidia Grid game-streaming service operating in the cloud.

16gig of storage, really? In today's world of streaming services and games/photos/videos etc, I'd be wanting a lot more storage out of the box.

Isn't everyone supposed to have everything stored in a cloud, or something? Surely not much need for huge amounts of local storage.

I must admit that whilst I like to keep on top of PC tech and gaming etc, this whole smart phone/console/smart TV/living room full of tech era has passed me by completely, I haven't owned a TV for 15 years and have no idea what all this stuff is supposed to be for.

Nothing to do with gaming, but for me the best idea and piece of tech that I've seen from anyone at GDC so far is this lovely little thing.

remote.jpg

and the reason is because it is rechargeable via USB.

Every device that has a remote should follow this lead and give us a rechargeable remote.
For me this is the device that has made me go ....WOW we should have had these years ago.

As for the rest of the stuff, well its a bit meh...but its ok I suppose.

Just got in from work trying to cram in all these announcements, what is that thing? Remote for the console?

You can charge AAA batts in a USB charger...

Well yes you can, at an additional cost for the batteries and then a charger.

Your reaction is a perfectly acceptable one, just as this one was, as listed in the Anandtech Liveblog.

10:30PM EST - Betting heavily on voice search. The remote is vey simple with only a couple of buttons and a microphone

10:30PM EST - It's also a Bluetooth receiver for headphones

10:32PM EST - "You don't ever have to replace the batteries"

10:32PM EST - Overheard in the front of the crowd "What?!"

10:32PM EST - It's rechargeable via USB

Personally I think it is a brilliant idea.

On a completely separate note, those people who have said that is shield console is nothing better than the $50 steam Link box from Valve.
Well the steam link box doesn't come with a controller (another $49)and I bet it cannot play Crysis (on its own) :)
