Nvidia buys stake in Intel

This tells you why

Intel will be making custom x86 CPus for Nvidia servers and also building custom x86 CPU cores for Nvidia SoCs to be used in servers, gaming laptops and other game machines etc

The 1st thing is helping Nvidia to bypass the current PCIE bandwidth limits Nvlink has atm and the SoC stuff is so Nvidia can expand into AMD's markets

AMD won't be happy with more competition coming for markets it currently dominates - handhelds, game consoles and other SoC applications

This will probably equate to being like when AMD and Intel teamed up those small form factor PC's. I don't think it's going to change the game. It will help keep Intel in the game though..

Just as they were getting used to margins, margins!

This does of course assume that Intel+Nvidia's solution will be competite in terms of perf/transistors. Intel's P cores certainly are not. Nvidia's GPU generally are although their Tegra lines and the delays with their MediaTek venture are not that great.

What I never expect is that Intel+NV will compete on lower margins; I think that Xbox-Next (if Microsoft don't give up) and PS-Next are already AMD. After that... Well it would a bit strange for Sony (most like the only console player stading at that point) to switch to Nvidia as they may not have forgotten PS3 yet. Still Intel as the driver may be different.

Regarding AMD I think they have to be willing to do some more lower margin parts. The "we are capacity constraint" excuse doesn't wash anymore as there are more nodes than TSMC latest (or second-latest) and to not design for some of the others is just poor planning. Fixed costs are rising like crazy so volume will matter far more. Yes, Radeon will never have margins like Ryzen and Zen in general and Nvidia get away with far more margins on - especially - their entry level GPUs but desiging an generation and then being afraid to ship in volume in case it lowers AMD's overall margins is crazy!

Just used the profits from my Intel holding to buy a new Intel/nVidia build, arriving today :)

Well, I'm holding onto the intel stock, think it has good legs from here.

I think the US Government will ensure Intel thrives. They need a company able to manufacture CPU's, GPU's and whatever else on US soil.

Most interesting bit is that Jensen said the new SoC's Nvidia will build with Intel CPU's will be using chiplet GPU architecture

I'm unsure about handheld or game consoles, but it sounds like laptops are coming with Nvidia chiplet GPU's and Jensen did go on to specifically say that they're working on a new SoC design that hasn't been done before by anyone

I assume that Rubin is not the architecture that will be chiplet based, but who knows for sure yet. I think its what comes next; because Jensen said Nvidia and Intel have been working on this new architecture for 1 year and it takes much longer than 1 year to build new architecture these days
