Hello all,

I have a 4870 but because of the non-existent linux driver support I am looking at nvidia solutions this time. With the release of new tech hours away any idea which cards (hopefuly cheaper soon!) I should be looking at to make the change value for money?

PS: Size and silence is also something I would like to consider.

Thanks.

Nvidia will only be releasing the high-end cards today, ~£300-450. You will have to wait until ~june for midrange cards. From the current range the GTX260 216 version will give similar performance to your current card, a GTX275 should give 115%. Not the easiest cards to find these days and because of that they are overpriced.

The only sensible priced card is the GTX 260 which is about the same as the 4870. I remember a review of the 2 cards together saying that they take turns of 1st and 2nd place on each game they tried. The only problem is that they are old tech now. I paid £140 a year ago for mine from here. Today, OcUK's cheapest is £137 and they are all out of stock. Ebay seems to fetch just over £100 a time.

Thanks for the info, I will try to grab a bargain from someone trying to get rid of "old tech" I guess :)

I didn't mean old tech as in obsolete (I still use one) I just mean it's a shame to pay £140 for a card you could have bought a year ago for the same price.
