This is a weird one this.
I have dug out an old PC, my old Saphire PureBlack Mobo with an I7-970 and after digging out 6 sticks of matching RAM, I know I have loads of GSkill RipJaws so I get those, and there are a couple of boxed up GTX470s here, so I will use one of those, and tun te tum... Bit of messing about and I immediately notice that I seem to have some issue with the RAM.
Right, well the RAM is basically a set of 4 and 2 sets of 2, and so I have :-
4 x PC1866 9-10-9-28 ( 1 set of 4 )
4 x PC1600 9-9-9-24 ( 2 sets of 2 )
All sticks are 4GB, and I find, that no matter what I do, the most I can get, is 16GB and yes, the Motherboard is triple channel and has 6 slots
After some time, I simply accepted that there is some issue, after all, these bits have been stored for a while so who knows? - All I know, is that when I last used thee parts, they were in different setups, but they all worked just great.
Anyway, yesterday, I remembered that I bought a dual GFX Card, and ATI 5950 I think it is? - a long huge swine anwyay, and I thought it might fit in this case, and sure enough, it does, and so I plopped it in and when I started it back up, I noticed it showing the full 24GB???
So, after some messing about, I find that using the nVidia card, made the PC not like the fact that the RAM was a tad different and would only let me use 4 sticks, and using the ATI let me use them all??
Why for it do dat?
