Nvidia card+freesync monitor?

Hi guys hope u can drop some advice here.
I have a gtx 1080 and planning to buy 1440p ips monitor. I opted for g-sync but the prices are breathtaking and my current financial situation won't allow me to spend more than 500£ for a monitor anytime soon, so I was thinking I'll get much cheaper freesync or even older models without any sync technology.
Question is will the tearing be bearable? Obviously at 1080p I max everything with vsync on so I don't have tearing problems.
Should I go for it? Will it still be a big quality jump?
And if so which monitor should I pick? Is getting 60hz 1440p even worth it? Or maybe should I wait a year and hope prices will drop enough?

It just means you will use the 144hz refresh rate of the monitor, using the standard v-sync feature, unlike the newer adaptive syncing features.

I'd try and get a monitor that is >60hz. Depending on budget, you also have ultra wide as an option. It's possible that 1080 should be ok with a 3440x1440p 34". But then also choose 29" 2560x1080, or 27" 16:9 1440p.
 
A high refresh screen will definitely offer you improvements in motion clarity and responsiveness compared with a 60hz model so I would def go with one of those as a starter. If you are maxing graphics card output at the necessary res and refresh rate and frame rates won’t really fluctuate too much then the variable refresh rate might not be necessary. Gsync would be a nice to have, but it’s not vital for a powerful system certainly. Plenty of ppl gaming without it :) with vsync on you won’t get any tearing anyway and if that’s what you normally play with, it should be fine :)
