Hi all i have a nvidia gtx280 which has not been overclocked or anything, it has started to get very hot during game playing and the fan on it does not speed up to compensate.I can maually make it go faster with riva tuner but in the nvidia control panel it wont let me change any settings for it,i have tried updating to the latest nvidia drivers with no difference.I have tried to put it on auto on riva tumer but again it does not speed up only manually.Any ideas?

personally i prefer msi afterburner to control fan speeds.

how old is the gpu? as it could be just clogged up with dust.
my kids hd 4770 was hitting 90.C  while playing games, i took it apart (this may void warranty) and it was clogged up with dust, now it runs at mid 50's.C while gaming.

It might be dust, have blown it out quickly just waiting for some compressed air to do it properly, will not take it apart incase i bust it lol.It was running 49 at normal and about 75 for gaming now 90 gaming and 56 standstill, but satill does not explain why the fan does not speed up when needed,it used to because you could hear it.
