Nvidia card required - not an 8800

Having gone from a 6800GT through an X1950pro to X1950XT is the 7950GT my best bet ?
any particular reason why you'd avoid the 8800? Just seems a bit daft to spend £160 on a slower DX9 card than a quicker DX10 one..... Do you need single slot or something?

My Mobo will not work with 8800

If I want to go 8800 I will have to buy new mobo, ram and PSU - not an option at the moment

Why do you want to downgrade to a 7950 GT from an x1950 XT.

Are you sure the 8800's wont work, is it because they aint on the list, the 7900 GTX works on it so i cant see why the 8800's wont, and if it did you wouldnt have to upgrade your PSU, that one should power a GTS no probs, which i think it should do as it handles an x1950 XT. :)

not familiar with your board but if you're running an E6600 then I would have thought that any mobo capable of running that should be able to run an 8800....... now I'm confused.......

Won't run the 8800's, just done some digging, the PCI-E slot only runs at 4x, may as well keep the x1950 XT instead of downgrading to the 7950 GT. :(

That's what you get for paying for Assrock rubbish. ;)

Hardly rubbish, they are great stepping stone boards.

But ya no point changing the 1950 for a 7950 at all.

I've heard that 8800's, even with Nvidia claiming that they'll only work in 16x slots, run fine in 8x slots. Never heard or seen one run in a 4x, though. If 8800's are completely PCIe SIG compliant, it 'should be fine'.

searching google there are a few people who have tried to get an 8800 working with that board and have all failed.

He'll have to buy a new board. He could have just bought a decent board in the first place.

Yeah but that will mean new RAM as well

Personally id flog the current board and RAM and put the cash to a decent board and memory
