Nvidia Driver - No Control panel

Hi Chaps
Ever since I installed Windows 7 64bit approx 1 Yr ago, I have been unable to install any Nvidia drivers newer than the 18X.XX series due to no control panel.
I did manage to install the 19X.XX series but had no control panel & no Physx.
Currently running a 260GTX so not really a problem but am looking to upgrade to a 480 shortly and with this in mind, just tried installing the latest WHQL drivers from the Nvidia site.
Yet again, install started but was unable to install control panel so aborted.
I have tried various methods including a straight update, using driver cleaner etc but always with the same result.
I have googled this problem and it would appear that I am not alone but I have never managed to find a solution.
I am loathed to reinstall windows and curious to no what changed after the series 18X.XX drivers to cause the problem.
I am very keen to resolve this issue and would really appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance:confused:

i had that with my newly bought 460, i just uninstalled the driver, rebooted , ran driver cleaner , rebooted installed drivers again

Hi Swifty55
That's the problem
Their is no control panel:mad:
It isn't installed which means at best the driver will install but no access to settings & no Physx or worst case, which appears to happen with the newer drivers, it will halt the installation and revert to previous driver.
After spending the last 3 hrs messing about, I currently cannot get the latest 258.96 drivers to install.
The newest ones I can get to correctly install are the 182.42 series which incidentally came on the disk supplied with the 260GTX!!
My concern is that if I can't get this to work, I wont be able to upgrade to the GTX480 as the older drivers wont support this card:confused:

look in here C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\258.96\WinVista_Win7_64\International\NvCplSetupInt.exe

do you have that file? its to install the control panel see if you can manually install it after installing the drivers

physx installer is in the same folder PhysX_9.10.0224_SystemSoftware.exe

Oh right, I've just come back to Nvidia from Ati. Thought you was just concerned about it not showing on the task bar. My bad! :(

Hi Arcnor
I've tried that and it wont load the control panel using the exe from within the folder.
Likewise with Physx.
Has anyone else experienced any problems specifically with Windows 7 64bit.
Might have to bite the bullet & reinstall:mad:

Thanks

Thanks
Already have UAC on minimum as very annoying!!
It would appear that on this forum at least, I am the only one stuck with problem.
I think that rather than fresh install, I will do a repair/update install & see what happens.
I also get certain occasional installer issues so original W7 install could be compromised although in general, runs very well.

Thanks

tried safe mode but didn't make any difference.
I am sure I read somewhere that it isn't necessary and am pretty sure that most peeps just update the existing driver rather than uninstall/driver clean etc.

Should I have "Dot net" installed

Thanks

Sorted

Uninstalled existing driver/driver sweep etc
Did repair install of windows
installed recommended update driver (258.96)
All good:D
Full control panel, physx et al
Well chuffed and me thinks I will reward my self with an upgrade!!
Not certain, but somewhere along the line, I reckon an "important" update has nobbled my system.
I've posted in Windows software forum to see if anyone can confirm this.
I can now also install Security Essentials - Yipee
