nvidia driver question

What's currently the best driver for a GTX580? Is it normally good to get the recommended drivers from the nvidia website (285.62 - WHQL currently) or is it better to get the beta drivers I keep seeing everywhere. Would it make any difference if it was a pre-overclocked card? Haven't had a nvidia card since my Geforce 4200ti, so a little out of touch here. :o

Also, is it ok to just completely uninstall catalyst drivers (from add/remove programs) or would I run into any problems. Would there be any benefit in reinstalling Windows? (Not a big issue as I've only just installed Windows and still have to install all my programs)

Lastly, if I were to go back to ATI, would the uninstall process be the same for nvidia drivers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's really whatever works best for you. I've just installed the 290.36 Beta drivers but I'm yet to give them a test so can't comment.

Before I had the previous Beta drivers installed as the latest non-Beta drivers were causing me problems.

For you, I would try the current latest non-Beta drivers for a bit, then compare with the latest Beta ones and see which one suits best. You may not notice much difference :)

When updating drivers is it ok to install straight over the currently installed driver, or do you have to manually uninstall them first? Are programs like driversweeper required (if it even works in Windows 7)?

Usually you can install over the top with nVidia drivers fine, if that fails you can reinstall and select the "clean install" option and it will clear out any nVidia clutter for you first.

Generally best to keep fairly uptodate with drivers, use the WHQL ones unless the betas have support for something newer that you play.

I've installed the 285.62 drivers and I'm wondering, should I leave all the settings at default (let application decide), or are there certain things I should definitely change?

I usually prefer settings to be completely at stock, no extreme optimisations or anything and stuff like AA/AF to be application controlled.

Lastly, under the display settings it says that my refresh rate is 59hz, is this normal for a 60hz display?
