nvidia Driver version 185.85 and gtx 260

Anyone had had problems with this driver version? after installing driver it says re-start.. but pc stays on monitor goes to sleep mode? i had to go to safe mode and roll back to previous version!

I didn't have that problem, but it did seem to act strangely just after install unlike the way all previous drivers have; something about being unable to start an Nvidia driver/service.

I had trouble in L4D with them so rolled back to 182.50 anyway.

I never understand why people rush out to install new drivers when there's no problem to fix... Does anyone remember the nForce2 saga?

Yeah that's similar to what happened to me. The screen just went blank after installation but I never got a restart message. I just did a shut down and restart from the power button and it had installed fine.

And just for the record I didn't rush out for new drivers as it was a new card and so I just downloaded the newest driver.........ok? Just wanted to make that clear.

I had a different issue, with a different GFX card, 8800 GTS (320Mb), games based on HL2 engine lock up for a few seconds, a real slideshow and then restart.

My old drivers are corrupt. Does anyone know where I can download an earlier version than 185.85?

Personlly i've had no probems with these drivers other than the slow reation in right clicking on the desktop. Performance wise they've shown some real increase over previous drivers in game.

nVidia keep the last few drivers plus a load of beta drivers available on the site.

I've gone back to 182.08 (used with previous 8800GTS) now with my GTX260 due to problems with both the 182.50 and 185.85.

I have a gtx 285 and notice really bad stuttering in gta iv with the new drivers so I reverted back to 182.08. Luckily I have a folder that I keep EVERY downloaded file to (other than media files) and had 182.08 already there so it was a breeze switching back, and no more stuttering in gta iv.

I'm with the other poster who said if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But then the lies about the boost in fps's gets me everytime.

previously using a ati card uninstalled drivers plonked in my gtx 260 installed 185.85 no problems.

No problems here with these drivers and my GTX260 even in GTAIV.

It always amazes me with pc's how two people can have very similar setups yet one person has problems and the other one doesn't.

***. I spent the whole period that I owned my 8800 GTX running on betas because the WHQL ones wouldn't work. Since I went back to ATI I have had no issues! I'd rather set myself on fire than go back to nvidia.

Both me and a mate had issues with these: he was on XP and had to do a reformat because he kept getting driver corruption errors after installing 185.85 (even when he rolled back to 182.xx). I'm on Vista and got horrible graphical errors and crashes in both DoW2 and Source games.

Rolled back to 182.50 and all is fine!

Had the same problem here with my 8800gtx and these drivers with vista 64bit..(i also had to do a roll-back in safe mode)

Seems ok with them here on my new GTX260, haven't installed it on my other machine, just the new one as with one of the earlier posters when I get a new card I automatically download the latest drivers because god knows what you get on the CD
