nvidia drivers for 8800gts and dvi to hdmi

Vga is fine but dvi to hdmi i cannot resize the desktop at any resolution and as the vga connection is playing up on my tv it is a pain ( it was fine with my ati card)
I have tried the bfg drivers from the disk which came with the 8800 gts320 and the lastest drivers from nvidia website.
The option to resize the desktop for dvi is there but when i use it, it just put the resolution up to 1920 x 1080 and that is 1080i and doesn't resize the desktop any resolution i try the desktop is to large and when i tried to resize my desktop second time the option to do it again is gone.
I reinstalled the drivers a few times but it is the same even powerstrip willnot let me change the timing to to sort it out which it did with the ati drivers, i will try some other drivers not sure what else to try at moment will try and search on web on fri to see if anything comes up.
This is the first nvidia card for a while so a bit lost.

if i restart the control panel the option is there again but it still doesnot resize my desktop and puts the res upto 1080i 1920 x 1080 and i cannot find a option to move the desktop in one direction i got 1 slider moving left to right making the desktop larger or smaller but it seams not to work in my case or am i mising something.

As I will get a Full HD 40W2000 soon I am very interested in this option as well.

From what I found is that you need Powerstrip to force 1920*1080 (a.k.a. 1080p) instead of 1080i

What resolution do you want?
 
Hmm, strange, so you don't have this option....

I'm using the latest nVidia drivers, however, I have quite a few problems with them. Such as, settings being forgotten, values changing (such as Gamma down to minus values). Also, the resize screen option as well is flakey.
 
i didnt bother with dvi so i cant comment on that, but hdtv support is a little flaky atm. it took me long enough to get 1080p working over vga but i finally nailed it and im glad i did, its very nice.

powerstrip doesn't support the 8800's and probably never will according to the forum nazis over there. they arent interested in it.

It can lose connection until tv warmed up once it warmed up it ok but as i have not been using it i wasn't really bothered as i was using dvi with ati

I have and if i use any of those resolutions desktop stays to big if i turn scaling off i get a desktop about 1/4 size of screen in middle of tv, but like i said i need to resize my desktop as there is about 10 mm missing all the way around when i try to resize desktop it goes into 1920 x 1080 (1080i) and it still to big.
