Nvidia drivers problem

For 8-9 months or so I've been having problems with the latest drivers and not being able to select the YCbCr422 colour format and 10 bpc depth so I can use HDR.

I'm currently using old 416.16 drivers and I can select RGB, 420, 422 and 444 with each varying from 8-12bpc but with any of the drivers since then I can only select 420 and 8 bpc nothing else even shows up!!

This means clicking HDR in windows does nothing and while playing certain HDR games does auto-switch like before but it says it is 8 bit 420 which obviously isn't what I want.

Every month or so I try the latest driver that is out and have to revert back to the old one every time. Today I tried starting fresh driver install with DDU and I still have the same problem.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do?

Btw I have a GTX 1070 and am on Windows 10.

Dont use driver uninstall utils it can break windows and create issues like you are having.

I think Win10 is saying to you it needs a fresh install. I take it you are on Win10 1903 up to date with all patches ?

I only used it as a last resort to be honest. I didn't know if previous drivers were affecting the new one so took the chance.

I thought i was and have only had an update a couple of days ago which I installed but it says I'm on 1803!!!!

Windows update says im up to date as well so I don't know whats going on there

What happens when you switch back to use default colour settings ?

HDR in windows still doesnt work and in advanced display settings it says 8-bit YCbCr420 (SDR)

Well it seem's like you have all the bases covered so i can only think its windows related issue.

It's a strange one. I've had a look in the release notes of the driver after 416.16 and nothing stands out with any changes related to HDR or the colour formats but that was a long shot anyway lol

Maybe the newer Nvidia drivers need the latest 1903 to function correctly this could be why you are not seeing the options you get with the older driver version.

I have a 4K HDR monitor and Panasonic Oled and i can change these options fine but i am on 1903 and the latest drivers.

Actually this is in it maybe that broke something for me

Operating System Issues  [Windows 10 Fall Creators Update][HDTV]: 12 bpc is automatically applied even on HDTVs that support only 8 bpc, resulting in a scrambled display. [2007663] To work around, open the NVIDIA Control Panel->Change Resolution page, select “Use NVIDIA color settings”, then set the Output color depth to 8 bpc.

I'll get it to update now and post back with the result ;)

Look below where the updates appear. 1903 is something you actually need to click on. I never noticed it at first. I just thought it would update. My windows updates were all installed at the time and fully up to date then i seen just below that there was an option for 1903.

ok and hopefully it sorts it.

All updated which took longer than I expected and the problem is still there :(

One thing I did try though was dropping the refresh rate down and putting it at 30hz brings back all the settings. So im gonna have to dig a little deeper.

Ill remember that for next time, thanks.

That is really weird issue, i am guessing you have already tried a different HDMI port on the tv even though on LG all the hdmi's support 4k hdr 60hz once you enable ultra deep colour.

I have yeah. Whatever I do going back again to the old driver sorts it all out straight away every time so that must mean the cable and ports are OK. Ill keeping digging tomorrow and see if I can find a solution.
