Sorry if this has been asked before but are any of the current gfx cards out by nvidia at the moment DX10 compatible? If so which ones and if not when will they be avaliable?

Mike

That's not strictly true :)

The only cards at the moment which are hardware DX10 cards are the nVidia 8800 cards

Current DX9 cards though will be DX10 compatible though

You can install and run DX10 games on a DX9 card

A good example would be Half-Life 2 running on a Geforce 4 Ti. Even though the GF4 is only a DX8 card, it will run a new DX9 game like Half-Life 2.

If some games require newer features that are only found on DX10 cards then they might not work and you might loose out on some special effects, but, on the whole, you will be able to run a DX10 game on a DX9 card

You realise that HL2 works on a GF4 Ti simply because Valve specifically programed in a DX8 code path right? If a DX10 game is released and the developers have not specifically put a DX9/8 path into the game it simply wont work.

Try latest Splinter Cell on a Rad9800 or GF5 FX... SM3.0 ONLY.

is that true? you sure its a sm3.0 ONLY game??

Hehe, Im feeling confused :P

So DX9 cards will work the DX10 games but wont be able to run them at full quality? So if I purchased a Nvidia 7600GT gfx card I should be ok??

Yes it is true, Splinter Cell Double Agent needs a SM3.0 ONLY card, first game after how many years since SM3.0 was released, and how long before SM4.0. :p

Its only Nvidia's 6 series and up, and ATi's x1k series, what an absolute huge market they are missing out on by making it SM3.0 ONLY, how ******* dumb is that.

Dx9 cards can't do Dx10 as its hardware.

hes right, it will not work with anything without SM3.0, anything before X1*** series and 6*** series, but it looks absolutely stunning :D

Edit: and isn't direct X 10 completely built from the ground up, unlike most other DX variations which are simply addons of there previous version? meaning DX9 cards won't be able to run DX10 games, like fitting square plug in circular hole :p
