It has come to our attention that Nvidia has ended up in more product trouble, although this time it's with regards to Nvidia's chipset division and it's not related to a manufacturing issue, but rather a law suit from OPTi Inc.

As the story goes, Nvidia has infringed a patent regarding to PCI prefetch that OPTi holds and although OPTi no longer makes PC chips, they now license intellectual property. The problem in this case is that Nvidia didn't come out on agreeable terms with OPTi and has to remove the PCI prefetch feature from its chipsets.

Another story of nvidia screwing up on something basic i really never expected them to have the amount of problems they are having yes i wanted them to get a kick up the backside after many years of nvidia chipset and gfx card drivers hell but didn't want them to go as bad as they are.

Right now they are not looking very good at all and i don't get any joy from it as we need nvidia for competition as much as we need amd. Heads will have to start rolling soon at nvidia if they are to repair their image and regain some confidence in the company.

I guess the really did get complacent having those two good years but who would have imagined they would get quite as complacent as they did.

This is just silly... just had a look at the one nForce board I do own and hey presto theres a new BIOS release with "Disable PCI Prefetch" as the only new "feature"... and they couldn't even be arsed to release an updated BIOS with certified wolfdale support even tho its possible on the board...

This does highlight the bad thing about patents tho... common sense should over-rule frivolous useage of them.
