nvidia seem to be flinging out drivers every few days now, last week i got the 163.67 betas and now another set out, btw is it ok to just uninstall old drivers and install new or should i use driver cleaner or similair.

wtf??? man im shafted here by ati and thier drivers once a month which don;t even work on their agp x1950pro, and nvidia are taking the pee right now, just taunting me :(
iv flapped it big time now with nvidia driver support. gonna have to get a gts or something quicktime.

ati probably concentrating on drivers for the newer 2900 series cards, but i suppose thats companys for ya, but if u decide on an 8800 series i higly reccomend the 640 gts or if you can afford it a gtx:) sorry are u still on agp m8 if so ignore my post

maybe you need to run something lik driver cleaner?

Yeah i have as usual ran driver cleaner after uninstalling the drivers but ill give it another whirl cause i got them of the uk nvidia's uk site and will try the link at the top of this thread.

Just to clear up is the usual driver uninstall order..uninstall-reboot-safemode-drivercleaner-reboot-install?.

Pretty sure thats the way to do it as others have stated in other threads on this forum section.

Hm it seems from that link at the top of this thread that the 163.69 drivers are only up there now for download but can still get then from the uk site.

The 163.71s for Windows XP feature:

- Improved compatibility and performance for NVIDIA SLI technology on Microsoft DirectX 9.0c and OpenGL 2.1 applications
- Improved compatibility for The Way It’s Meant To Be Played game titles: BioShock, Crysis, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Hellgate: London, PT Boats: Knights of the Sea, and World in Conflict
- Added NVIDIA SLI profile for Team Fortress 2
- Added PureVideo HD decode acceleration for GeForce 8600, 8500 and 8400 series GPUs
- Numerous game and application compatibility fixes

Which is the same as the 163.69's, probably only addition is the TF2 profile, and the PT Boats improvements. :D

im on pci-e mate. gonna wait for new gfx card next year, but will be sticking to nvidia from now on though unless i need an agp card then its the x1950pro.

as for these above new drivers, the main that that catches me is from the xp notes:
- Added PureVideo HD decode acceleration for GeForce 8600, 8500 and 8400 series GPUs

looks like they had HD video decoding under XP now which seems to turn the tide for me in getting htpc gfx cards. since other offerings were limited to only vista acceleration.

gonna pop down to me mates yard and see how games like bioshock run on his 8600gt now with these newer drivers. will be interesting.
