NVidia G-SYNC HDR Q2 2017

just when I thought that I have no reason to purchase anything this year ... 4k, 144hz, been waiting for those babies for quite a while ...

Check your enthusiasm at the front door... in the HardwareCanucks video on this monitor, they mention that despite the crazy specced system that was running the Infiltrator demo (x2 Pascal Titan's), it was still seeing frame dips below 30FPS a few times!!! :D:D:D:eek::eek::eek:

30FPS comment is at the 4 min mark if you're interested.

Nothing new. We all know new monitors are coming out for everyone. Not gsync/Nvidia exclusives either.

However how many here are going to fork £1200+ for the PG27UQ?
And an additional £1400-£2400 to drive them? (they need 2 TXPs)

Because both those monitors are 27" unfortunately.

Ofc there is also the Gsync variand of the CF791 for quantum dot tech.

Yeah 4K is still hard to run, that's not surprising to me at all. I'm still undecided between 1440p or 4K tbh.. but a much more powerful single card is needed before I'll even bother with 4K.

Also, i wonder how much truth is in that HDR simulation :D

For me, 27' is too small for 4k. I wouldn't be able to read any text on such a monitor. Nah, they need to be bigger. However, once that barrier is breached ( meaning 4k, 144hz ) you can expect bigger size to follow soon-ish

I think for now, 1440p is where we really are. Best combo, for me anyway, is 27', 144 hz, 1440p, gtx 1080. That is the sweet spot.

Lovely , but I'm scared to ask the price. You can bet it won't be cheap. I'm still not interested in 4K. I'll wait a few years and let it mature cause right now 4K+HDR+144hz=stupid money

For desktop use you can just adjust the enlarge size in Windows Display settings, no issue. But for some games like TW Warhammer, text does indeed get a bit small at high resolutions. I can't play TW Warhammer at 1440p from my normal laid-back gaming position.

yes I know that, but scaling only works up to a point. besides I love RPG games and those are text heavy so yeah, no joy there.

Not much getting around that then? Probably better off at 1440p then like you said unless going something like 30-32"+ which is a bit too big for a desktop screen IMO. Even then i bet text is still quite small with the screen only being 2-3' away.

The Windows scaling is well able to deal with 1440p. I have the scaling at 150% out of 225%. The pixel density of a super wide is about the same as 1440p, you get more in super wide, not smaller.

Windows scaling yeah but my problem is mostly in games. My monitor goes higher than 1440p. 3k something on 2k something, can't remember the exact values now and I tried those. I could not read anything in any game, it was quite nice however in games where you didn't have to read anything, like a fps or a 4x space game, no issue there and having the extra screen estate was actually very very nice.

I do wish they would do one of these screens in a 32" or bigger. I feel 4K is a bit wasted at 27" in truth and I struggle to see the difference between 1440P and 4K
