" According to the latest reports from Taiwan both Nvidia and AMD are both set to bring their A game by the end of Q2 with the release of the G100 and RV770 GPUs. Both manufactured by TSMC, the chips are said to be already taped-out and planned for a late Q2 release but there's not much info about them. The G100 would be a new high-end chip of the GeForce 9 series while the RV770 is an update of the RV670 that is still built on 55nm technology. We'll have a cruel summer. "

Not much interest to me, but may be to some of you, Q2 is a while away.

I don't get it, the G100 is supposedly the proper next gen thats supposedly coming the middle of the year with AMDs next gen R700, are these now saying the G100 is a 9 series, if so then that means its going to be a 2x year old 8 series card by the time it comes out, as the 9 series are just 8 series with new names, just like AMD's 3800's are still 2900 series.

Best to take it with a pinch of salt anyway. Some unknown Dutch computer magazine, with pretty much the same guy writing every single article, using the same old "reports from Taiwan" anonymous source that sites like The Inquirer always use isn't exactly good as gospel.

Source here since it wasn't linked.

Ill take that with a bucket of salt. :D

I can't see them trying to flog 2x year old cards still though at £400+ a pop, mind you, you never know with these buggers though, the 9800 GX2 is over a year old and its not even out yet, and theres talk of them being £500-£600. :D:D

Best to just wait until some big sites (e.g. AnandTech) start reporting it really.

I've given up on speculating now, just going to live for the present so I can't be let down by hype.

Just give us some new tech ffs, i still blame AMD for this, thanks to them its well slowed, if it wasn't for them we'd have had a next gen by now. :(

Nvidia started that trend with the FX series so they have only themselves to blame for trend setting :p.

Dont think they can afford a new Gen anytime soon.

ROFLMAO :D :D :D. Yeah they can't afford it PMSL :p.

I'm not being funny but would it seriously kill you to post source links so that people can read the whole article and get the whole picture?

That same article, linked here, says "AMD says $1.608 billion of that $1.772 billion corresponds to "ATI impairment of goodwill and acquired intangible assets." We're not financial analysts by any stretch of the term, but based on our understanding of impairment of goodwill, AMD is writing off some of what paid for ATI's non-material assets. That $1.608 billion therefore doesn't look to be a material loss, making AMD's figure a whole lot less dramatic."

It would take a fool to believe that AMD couldn't afford their next GPU.

I normally do post URL's just little hungover today. (you would know I do if you looked at every other post I make).

And I have been in business long enough (longer than some of you have lived) to know a LOSS dont always mean they actually lost that amount, it simply means they do not meet their Projected Target that year.

Either way its less cash to play with and I dont care either way anyhow, the topic was made for anyone interested in it so dont get it offrails now.

Not posting an URL is one thing but you did selectively quote too in that last one.

The rest of the article clearly shows how it's not a big deal.

Oh boy, here we go with the old appeal to motive. I'm done here before this turns childish.

Sorry Cheese but I agree with Ulf here. Your quote was to mislead and if it wasn't for Ulfhedjinn stepping in then others might have believed your post. Also if you had read it properly then you would have given the right information and not the only part that looks like AMD is in trouble.

I'm not going to even argue with you though as I was laughing my head off when you posted about AMD/ATI's money loss as I knew it was ridiculous. If you've been in the game so long then why would you not know that AMD could EASILY afford their next GPU???. Just doesn't make sense any way you look at it .

Who cares m8, Im too hungover to give a damn, still money they aint got that they aimed to have.

Many posts here dont make sense and I bet the posters aint all hungover, it was actually a joke aimed to LoadsaMoney as he made the AMD input.

I posted something in OP that some peeps may be interested in (I aint particullary) end of from myself. ;)

P.S thank God Ulfhedjinn is here to jump in :p.

Ahh well all good now m8y :).

You know what this forum is like with AMD and Nvidia at the moment so I just wanted that cleared up as I love both manufacturers. This thread would have been like CoD4 on coke.

I love AMD for their CPU's, I ideally dont want Intel but today there is no point not to and the AMD 64's had 3 years at the top. :'(

I do not like ATI GPU's but cant say that they are bad, both are needed.

I can say (IMO) AMD shouldnt have bought ATI for both their sakes.

Aye :( (sniff) I already miss my X2 CPU but my mum has it now at 2.8Ghz lol. My hot rod 2900 is sitting in the darkness just raring to go into some young persons system and bringing their computer gaming to life (without AA of course :p).

I do wish we could have a two way scenario to see if AMD messed up ATI or that they might have been already thinking about this insane way of doing AA. If only I were god :).

You cant be as Im God :p

Hmm, are you going to screw over some poor kid by selling him your 2900 ?

Scotland ain't big enough for two gods . If you're in Glasgow then we'll meet let's say Livingston/Bathgate and let the battle commence :D.

I wouldn't screw over anyone :). I'm too nice to do that and let my conscience take over (getting older/kinder boo). If they have a X1900 or lower and receive this card then they will be happy. I went from an X1900XT to that and I was very happy apart from the AA experience. Without AA that card flew at 847Mhz core and 1000Mhz memory.
