Launch date is early November.

The 8800 GT card is 9-inch's long, has 8-10 layer PCB and equipped with 1ns GDDR3 memories. There will be 2 SKUs; GeForce 8800 GT 256MB and GeForce 8800 GT 512MB priced at US$199 and US$249 respectively.

I think I may have found my GFX card upgrade. All I need is a decent grahphics card, this fits the bill nicely. Glad I never bought an 8600GTS now.

Any info on how much these and the "9800" series will suck power?
If they consume the same amount as current graphics cards then Nvidia (and ATI if they are the same) want shot. Cards at the moment are sucking far too much power, causing too much heat and are ludicrously long.

Seriously, in 5 years I bet we have to buy another "PC" which is just a huge graphics unit and nothing else, and that has to plug directly into the main machine.

bet mister gibbo will no if it is coming out then as its not long and surely nvidia would have told him of a new cards release ,but then again would he if it would hurt sales in the mean while if people hold off buying now.

I like the look of the 2900Pro but I really want something that's quiet with low power consumption (to keep the missus happy and avoid me having to use ATITool to slow down the fan). It looks like the R670 and G92 are both going to be cooler, quieter single slot cooler efforts. Of course if I happen to see an uber-cheap 2900Pro somewhere I might still bite...

8800GT is a bit of a strange name due to the architectural difference. I wouldn't be surprised if it's very close to the 8800GTS in performance and the 512MB version may be a better bet for higher resolutions than the 320MB 8800GTS.

Well this is why I'll probably go for the 8800GT, plus I own a generic 550Watt PSU, with 26amps on the 12v rail. Got to play it safe and save the pennies.

Looks like AMD want part of the GT action "AMD plans to launch Radeon HD 2900 GT on October 8th". Why bother bringing out a card for such a short period. I'm sticking with nVidia for the forseeable future.

I dont quite agree with that, however, I do think that PC's built for gaming will consist of a really big GPU, with an almost secondary proc/ram/cpu.

I think the gpu will become the center of the system, rather than the mobo/proc/ram/cpu combo.

much like a console, but modular and much more versatile....
I hope sony aint reading this:eek:

But the 8800 GT will cost almost as much as a 8800 GTS does now and be slightly slower so irrelevant that you didn't buy a 8600 GTS IMO.

Only buying the 8800 GTS 320Mb. This card is between a 8600 and 8800 GST 320Mb and priced almost as much as a 800 GTS 320Mb so you take your choices but atm the moment you'd be daft not to buy anything but a 2900pro in that price range.
