Just thought this might interest some people .....

New numbers from market research firm Jon Peddie Research suggest NVIDIA enjoyed an impressive 46.8% increase in market share in the discrete mobile graphics segment during the second quarter of this year. The company grabbed 36.7% of the market in Q2, up from 25% in the first quarter. ATI saw its share of the same market shrink from 74.6% to 63.1%.
Meanwhile, the green team lost some ground on the desktop. NVIDIA's share of the market for discrete desktop graphics declined from 53% in Q1 to 51.5% in Q2, while ATI's climbed from 45.1% to 47.9%.

As usual, Intel's domination of the integrated graphics segment allowed it to hold the lion's share of the overall graphics market. Its piece of the graphics pie actually went up from 39.1% to 40.3% in the second quarter, while NVIDIA's overall market share rose from 19.0% to 20.3%, and ATI's shrunk from 28.7% to 27.6%.

Overall, the graphics market suffered from a drop in shipments during the second quarter. Shipments for all graphics devices dipped 4.6%, and the desktop integrated graphics segment was the hardest hit with a 7.1% decrease. The mobile integrated graphics market went against the flow, though, seeing a 4.2% rise from the first quarter and a 47.1% rise over last year.

I always found there definition of mobile off. They seem to skip out half the mobile market to inflate Nvidia’s & ATI's numbers and only use laptops. Unless I am wrong and PowerVR/Intel really are only 0.2% of the market which I find extremely hard to believe considering how well they are doing and how bad Nvidia are doing. Look at PDA’s Nivida re not selling at all the only 3Dchips to sell in that market are PowerVR/Intel. Same for mobile phones its all PowerVR and Intel for 3D.

Nivida are only doing well in 1 section of the mobile, market. If you look at it as a hole you get a different story. Nivida still have a good market share but I bet it’s a lot lower then 36.7%. Same for ATI.
