Nvidia gamestream ending

Literally just found out about this.
Peed off is an understatement.
I bought my shield pro in July and one of the main reasons was gamestream.
I specifically bought an RTX3080 so that it would work as a pose to a cheaper AMD card.
I don't understand the reasoning for removing the feature either, it isn't adding load to their servers or costing them any money.
Will there be anyway to block the update ? or does it need to be connected to cloud to work in the first place ?

I would be well ****** off, if I still used Gamestream and it worked properly.
A couple of years ago I got a shield pro and got into it, but it was very annoying. Tried everything and wasted a lot of money to get it running properly without lag and image breakup and to get HDR to stream, but without going into detail it was an inconsistent nightmare. I gave up and got some super long fibre optic 8k HDMI cables properly installed in the house - and now that's a dream.

I have to try this if it works but those suddent kills of a service does not come down good!
I thought this was the primary reason to use a Shield?
Problem is with Steam link, it doesn't support 4k. Steam link works nice, much better than expected, but the maximum bitrate and resolution for streaming is a bit ****...
Yes your game can run on 4k natively but the stream to TV is just 1080P
. I guess you do get rid of jaggies and shimmering that way, but still... I actually thought about buying a shield pro for this, but I understand now they're removing this feature? ridiculous...

, seems like a stupid idea. Buy an AMD card and use AMD Link I suppose ?

So testing with Parsec I can do 4K streaming and it works perfectly on the Shield 2015. Problem is unlike Moonlight, there's no hardware decoding for Linux/Steam Deck, so there's a some latency due to software decoding.

Well, there goes one of the main reasons to consider an Nvidia card this gen instead of AMD - my wallet says thanks!
I have a Shield, and use it for home streaming quite a bit. Currently have an AMD card as recently it was a case of picking up whatever was available, but when I had 980ti before, Gamestream worked really well - Steam link app works fine, but the quality isn't quite up there with Gamestream. AMD link isn't very stable, and doesn't have the same level of controller support as Steam.
Unfortunately neither of them support HDR.
It does support 4k, but as you say, the limited bitrate means you get quite a bit of artifacting/blockiness.
It would be nice if this prompted Valve to bring the Steam link app to this decade by adding support for higher bit rates and HDR, but I'm not holding my breath...
