Yeah I'm sure it's a chicken or the egg thing. Now that graphics cards are coming with more VRAM, games will start to use more VRAM.

well, GTX1060 not that much better than GTX970, GTX1070 miles too expensive, looks like I'm sticking with my trusty GTX970 @ 1080p/144Hz for a good while yet...

I'll get a 1070 when the price comes down and upgrade to 1440p - if price doesn't come down, might as well just wait til 4k@60fps becomes possible.

Tell that to the 970 playing mirrors edge maxed out. Games are only going to get more memory intensive.

Games are going to get more demanding in general. Which means that users with this class of card will have to be turning down settings anyways. As people in this class already do...

Why are people saying 6gb will be enough? 8gb is so inexpensive it has to be some sort of sales ploy from nvidia. If you need more ram get the mortgageable 1070.

Also what we guna guess at price? Msrp250 actual price 300-400?

So 4GB is no longer enough

!!Newsflash AMD delay RX480 for another month!!

Oh in that case 4Gb is still pleanty then. ;)

192bit bus, it could be 3 or 6, no chance they would have gone with 12

Really? what with, mine craft or something? I regularly see over 5.5gb usage @ 1440p.

How can you tell it's actually needed?

A card fills up its RAM as needed and it doesn't prematurely release that memory until it needs it. Need texture X ? Load it up. Later you don't need texture X but it's still in RAM and showing up as "used". It doesn't waste time emptying RAM for no gain and at some risk (from its point of view) just to make a game look good in a monitoring utility.

So you may well see your card have over 5.5GB in use, but that doesn't inherently translate into it performing any worse than if you only had 4GB.
