**Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Thread**

By not going with either your missing out on a truly great gaming enhancement.

Do you upgrade your card every year? Unlikely. Unless you chop and change with every new release regardless of vendor then it's worthwhile going with one based upon the card your buying at that time.

Ridiculous analogy. completely missing the point.

Not it's not. Pretty good actually. Beans on toast is cheapest with nothing extra offered but you would be full from eating.

Steak is a good step up and always works no matter the occasion (freesync(2))

Lobster is a real delicacy, it only works when you go for an expensive bottle of bubbly and some caviar or similar to really get the most out of it (Gsync with Nvidia pairing) however it is known to be currently the best money can buy even at the premium.

Overall it's a pretty good analogy. It all depends how you perceive your return on the investment of your income to sanctification.

Steak= Freesync
Lobster = G-Sync
Beans on toast = old tech monitors/TVs

I thought it was a straight forward analogy and like Llamdal and Easyrider have said, you are limiting yourself by not having either. Your choice but having owned G-Sync and tried Freesync, I would hate to be without it, as would pretty much everyone who uses either.

I upgrade every 18 months or so. And the last few times yes I have chopped and changed brands. So I would be buying a new monitor every 18 months. No thanks lol. Vsync works just fine.

The analogy isn't good because he could eat steak one night and lobster the next, without having to change from his favourite restaurant. :p

Precisely. Eating lobster or steak doesn't exclude you from having something else the next night.

People who own a Gsync or freesync monitor will obviously (and understandably) want to stick with the GPU brand that matches their monitor. therefore limiting their choice.

I'm not saying it's wrong. I just said thats why I dont want one. (and another bonus is I save money). Same way my wife point blank refuses to change from Apple Iphone because she doesnt want to loose her photos / go through the hassle of changing. She is hopelessly brand locked.

Not to mention that steak and lobster are MASSIVELY better than beans on toast. You cant say that Gysnc vs Vsync is like lobster to beans on toast lol.

The original quote sums it up best.

I wouldn't even touch Vega even if its faster than the Ti for the same money got a 1200 quid gsync monitor so nvidia has my money regardless :(

FACT.

Brand locked by default. GG GPU manufacturers lol.

If you buy a free sync monitor then you benefit now, Then if you change to nvidia in 12 months time you still have vsync on the free sync monitor.

Whats it gonna be,

Steak, Lobster, or Beans on Toast?

For me, i am on a diet with graphics cards so i am waiting for the right deal on the next round of cards before i buy either.

Very very true. But in said 12 months. I would (at the very least subconsciously) want to buy AMD to keep using the freesync. Otherwise I paid for something I am not using.

So I'll take the "beans" lol. (And by beans I mean a top of the range fully functioning and perfectly good non brand locked monitor).

Anyway. I really am dragging this WAY off topic. I appologise for that. Back to 1080Ti chat. Thats whats interesting.

Now you're close to an analogy. What you're doing by refusing to go Gsync or Freesync would be like your wife refusing to watch Apple TV because she may one day fancy a Pixel phone.

Why not just enjoy the Apple phone she has, along with all the branded technology available to enhance her experience?

It was just a passing thought in my head. I personally feel he is missing out but that is his choice and each to their own. My monitor is rather old now (ROG SWIFT PG278Q) and I have had the luxury of G-Sync since July 2014 and it is only when you run without G-Sync do I realise how good this sync tech is. Sure you have V-Sync but stutter is really noticeable. I actually wonder how I ever got on in the first place but it is like the old square TVs, then 1080P, then 4K..... You get used to it and it feels normal.

I actually miss CRT's. Something about a good CRT just looked fantastic.

I'm running the LG 38UC99 at the moment m8 (with 1080), and tbh the *only* way I can get gaming to be anywhere near as good as the X34 is to switch on the ULMB feature and combine it with Fastsync. Any other settings and I just can't get it to a good enough level!

The moral of the story is, thank God for Fastsync!!! :D

As you can imagine, with it being Freesync I'm hoping that Vega is pretty good (and the fact that they'll have a Fastsync equivalent!!) :cool:

Ah but if one restaurant is a fish specialist and one a steak house then that is how I was viewing it anyways as I have both local and neither offer the other so I have to select one of them often :)

And your missing out on the fact that you may only be able to afford one of those meals out the two. If you could afford both in the analogy, then by rights that is suggesting that you could buy both a freesync and gsync monitor.

To me though Gsync and freesync are significant improvements over vsync. If you really want though beans on toast could be sausage and mash with gravy or similar then. :)

Also if your wife ever feels like swapping then all the places you buy your phones from will do it for you so you don't have go through any hassle ;)
