Few days old but it may save somebody some money if they're starting to put their eggs into the 4870 basket, due as an upgrade kit in the next 1-2 weeks according to the online Apple Store.

Understand PC users have had this card for a while (shocker!) and the next generation of both ATi and nVidia cards are likely round the corner but this will be a nice boost for anyone who games on their Mac Pro. Like myself. :p

Apparently it outperforms the 4870 and I've always found nVidia cards to be quieter - so I'm hoping it's available for the early 2008 Mac Pro.

Coming in June. Story Link.

I know no one cared originally :p but it has hit the US stores. Unfortunately no sign of it in the UK ones as of yet. :(

Also reading on MacRumors, the drivers don't seem to be that greatly optimized and as it doesn't have DisplayPort - it isn't a BTO option.

Add 100 notes to the price of an equivalent PC version.

It's 450 dollars on the US Apple store apparently.

This is great news for Hackintoshers, finally get the much needed ktexts for the 285. It was an eternity waiting for the 4870, at least the 285 has arrived a bit quicker.

Given the choice, I'll take an NVIDIA card every time :)

Perhaps we'll soon enter a period where Mac graphics cards keep up with the mainstream cutting edge, if enough companies realise good results from the new technologies in Snow Leopard.

Me too. I really like nVidia cards although I did have to endure the times of Vista release.

I can't see the cards keeping up with the mainstream, I'm not sure the companies can be bothered to write Mac drivers. Either that or Apple isn't very forthcoming in helping them add it to the options of Mac hardware.

The latter wouldn't be a surprise as EVGA seem to have did most of the work in regards to getting this GTX 285 card to market. But let's hope so, it could only be a good thing.
