Nvidia GFX upgrade due

I have 2 x NVidia 580 in SLI, they have served me well.

Thinking of upgrading to 2 x NVidia 970 or 2 x NVidia 980.
But will be getting them 1 at a time, will 1 x 970 or 1 x 980 be faster than 2 x 580 in SLI.

Or can I put 1 x 970 or 1 x 980 in SLI with a 580.

Maybe will go for 1 x 980, and use the 1 x 580 just for PhysX.
I have the room I my system, as well as a large PSU.

I would wait till AMD release the 380X and 390X. It's only a few months away.

I would sooner cut my balls off, than put anything AMD in my system.

Its simple, I dislike AMD, I dislike crossfire, I don't like there drivers...hence I wont buy there products.
