Does this new nvidia gpu connector update make the 40xx series a bad choice for second hand buyers?

Is it the connector on the gpu or the connector to tue gpu that is getting an update?
 
I think it's the cards itself?

So yes, possibly a bad choice for second hand buyers or even current first hand buyers.
