NVIDIA GPUs to Accelerate Microsoft Azure

I was planning to grab a shield tv in the states in a couple of weeks as they hadn't done European announcements yet, just grab one in the UK now :)

Yer, today is the launch for UK/Europe but might not be till later?

From what I can make out only 3 retail points will have them, rainforest, what used to be gamestation and direct from nvidia.

Hopefully gibbo can advise otherwise and has a warehouse full of them :D

E: rainforest has them for pre order now due on the 10th.

I was expecting someone from OcUK might be there yesterday and will be getting them in.

There should be more, an etailer that rhymes with ran has them in stock

But he mentions MS wanting to stop people being able to play those games locally on their own hardware

No, what i said was MS want you to pay them for the privilege of playing games through their eco system, Like XBox Live, the way in which they will achieve that is by streaming the game to you so you would not need your GPU, it will be rendered at their end and streamed to you at a predefined IQ and Resolution.

Be that as it may you would not be able to get the same game outside of the Microsoft channel so you can run it on your own hardware with your own desired settings, because in allowing that you could bypass XBox Live and the subscription fee's you pay to Microsoft.

The fact that right now you don't need Microsoft to play games on their OS (Because you have your own hardware to run it) is something they want to change.

Lets say BF5 is available through (PC Live) you pay MS £12 per month for PC Live and £50 for the game, the game is streamed to you making your GPU pointless. For Windows you would only be able to get BF5 through (PC Live)

Its about MS wanting to make you dependant on them so you pay them a fee, there is a difference.

Yeah, devs aren't going to go for that, neither are hardware vendors. Its utter rubbish doom mongering.

You'd be surprised.

Microsoft Pay EA a ton of cash to stream certain games though XBox Live, as a part of that contract EA are not allowed to sell those games for Windows Platforms through anyother channel.

For their part's EA get a huge down-payment from Microsoft and still et to sell the games as they normally would given that they only make games for Windows anyway, whats more they get this on top of the down-payment from microsoft as they are still selling the games individually to you.

So EA increase their profits.

The hardware vendor get paid by Microsoft for the hardware they games are rendered on and then stream from.

You pay Microsoft £12 per month for all of this.

In the end Microsoft, EA, Nvidia, and Intel increase their profits.

You are £12 a month worse off and you lose the freedom to control the game settings.

I spend a lot more than £12 a month on PC gaming
Most PC gamers do.

Congratulations you've just spelt out the end of Xbox, but for real PC gaming? Pull the other one its got bells on.

I wouldn't even care if Windows stops being a platform, which is exactly what would happen if they started doing that ^
Theres too many platforms, too many developers and too many egos in the gaming industry to get everyone to sign up to that

How many xbox exclusive titles are there right now?

No, you pay Microsoft £12 a month for XBox Live, this enables you to play the game you just bought from EA through the XBox Live channel on your Windows PC, XBox and Windows Tablet a like.
Its streamed to all of those devices.

There are too many devs that will stick their fingers up at MS and switch to steam OS or whatever rather than sign up to that.
As I said, how many xbox exclusives are there now?

Cloud gaming is being set up as a cheaper alternative to having your own device, not as a replacement for having your own device. Not everyone is "connected" all the time, so standalone content is nit going to disappear any time soon.

Thats my hope, and Nvidia's as that way they will get the best of both, you still need an Nvidia GPU to render games not a part of XBox Live, a lot of developers will snub Microsoft, Microsoft wouldn't be interested in smaller independent developers anyway.

But a large group like EA with a lot of AAA games? yes they will be and EA will take the money, you will lose control of those games and you will need to pay Microsoft a recurring fee to play them after you already paid EA for the Game. this is exactly how XBox Live already works on the console.
