Nvidia Grafix card choice

Hi All,

I've just ordered a Viewsonic 20" Widescreen monitor and will be looking for a graphics card that can play games decently at the widescreen res (1680 x 1050 ?!).

I know that the prices are always changing but its only a couple of months away before I purchase. Can anyone suggest a Geforce card for somwhere between £150-£200 for my system please? At the moment the "XFX GeForce 7600 GT XXX Edition 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (PVT73G-UDD7) (GX-079-XF)" for £164.44 is looking a good deal.

I'm currently running an ATI 9800 Pro and while there's no reason I'm moving over to nvidia I would like to try them (I dont believe there is much of a difference between the two). Tho if some thinks I'll get a but value:performance ratio with an ATI card then I'm not apposed to the idea.

Many thanks for your help, this community has been great to me over the last couple of months.

To play oblivion at 1680x1050 , i`ll tell you now,you need the top card to get the most outta it. I got a 7900GT clocked to hell, and it just about plays it at max settings & HDR, well with decent framerates anyway.

Ah I think I'll stick with ATi then - one of my friends is soon to move over from Nvidia to ATI.

So your saying to play the full widescreen res i'm looking at a price closer to £250? Any suggestions? The ATI x1800s do look a bit more reasonably priced too.

Having a quick skim through the graphics cards on OCuk. The "Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-121-SP)" looks a good deal currently on offer at £187.
