Nvidia GT440 In game black screen at 50c

Hi guys

I recently upgraded my GT220 to the Asus GT440 to get better quality on games i play CODMW2, BF3 & Skyrim.

Although the card i have now doesnt put the settings on these games on ultra but i am happy with the settings its sets these games at. BF3 and Skyrim are on Medium/High not suprising due to the intense details and both games play and run fine even when at 60c+

How ever CODMW3 seems to give me a black screen for about 3 seconds then goes back into game when it reaches 50c - 53c. i would suffer this every 5-10 mins.. After spending a lot of time on google looking to solve this issue i have manage to get it to go black a few times through the game but not as much. I was told to goto my Nvidia control panel and turn the Physics to my GT440 and not on CPU or Auto and to switch the power management to prefer maximun performance.

But i still have the problem, Has anyone here had this issue or do the GURUs know what the problem could be?

This is my set up

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz

4096MB RAM

2 x 500GB HD

NVIDIA GeForce GT 440

26" Toshiba Flat Screen HDMI connected

Operating System:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)

I'v uninstalled the latest version of the geforce drivers 295.73 back to 285.62

I have Re-installed the game and let the game optimize the graffix and i'v also turned the settings myself in game to medium/off

Any help would be great.

Thank you in advanced

Andy

I should also mention this card is manufactured overclocked so using EVGA i decrease the card down 100 on each setting to see if i can get it stable but no joy :(

Kind regards

The card isn't that powerful and will struggle to play MW3/Skyrim... MW2 shouldn't be a problem, my toaster can produce pixels faster than MW2 needs them.

Erm, try decreasing the clocks, but the card is tested by the manufacturer at the speeds it currently runs at, so it shouldn't make a lot of difference.

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling???

Welcome to the forums btw xD

Just wow! It might be an idea to actually read the OPs posts before writing a reply ;)

LOL Thank you for your reply and thanks for the welcome. I'v actually made a typo, i play CODMW3 not 2 :o My bad..

What i dont understand is BF3 and Skyrim are much heavier on graphics then CODMW3 but i dont get any problems with them games.

I have tried a number of times uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them i even gone back a few drivers that support the card just to see if there was an issue with the current/latest driver.. It is very confusing. I'v even reinstalled the game too

Would a 650w PSU be enough to power everything i have as i remember when i had issues with previous cards i had to upgrade my PSU.. Im sure it is but i dont want to leave any pages unturned

It shouldn't be having those problems on those temps. Try opening the case and get a fan to focus air to it to see if it helps?

What PSU do you have?

Im not sure the system requirements for MW3 (and I know its running on an ageing engine) but is it possible that the card isnt supported by the game? Just seems like a low end card and sometimes games get above themselves.

Have you tried using an older driver version from the nvidia website. Maybe the drivers have an issue with working your card with COD on this occasion so maybe worth trying older drivers.

PS not meaning to insult just trying to help sorry if this comes across poorly

I have a 650W Alpine. I've opened the cas and its pretty cool inside, I'v put my desktop fan blowing in there but still the same.

Ann1h1lator No insult taken, I need as much advise as possible although i have tried older drivers with the same problem :(

Im thinking maybe its a game issue maybe deleteing the game and running a reg cleaner to make sure everything to do with the game is deleted and start again or maybe i just have a faulty card.. If after reinstalling the game and i still continue to get this problem i will return the card to Amazon but could you kindly refer me to a card? Budget of around £100

Holy, Alpine?! That's a terrible brand to have! Get a PSU from Corsair, Antec, OCZ, XFX, or CM, they're far more reliable and not made from cheap stuff: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-230-CM&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

Could be the card not recieving enough power. The Alpine PSU may state 650w but that could be peak wattage which only lasts for a few seconds. Even then, the majority of that power might not even be going to the GPU. Always go for a better brand PSU when gaming. Never skimp out on it. You could be risking your system.

Oh Really :o Darn Alpine lol.. Well in that case what i shall consider going for that PSU and place my order on payday (Wednesday) I was going to get a new case from OC since my dad introduced me to the site. So i'l also place an order for that too ( Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus Case )

Im sorry im going of topic, How ever i think you could be right. I have just installed the game again and still the same issue, i went round my dads and put my card in his PC and installed the game and it runs with no issues. Think its time to retire this machine and invest in a new one..

Thank you for your help and advise, you have hit the nail on the head. Going of topic if i was to send this GPU back, what would you recommend i should get for best performance and play with the games i play say around £100 -£130.

The psu is suspect, probably doesn't supply clean voltage. Cheap psus are all over the place.

Doesn't explain how you can play bf3 fine though. What a conundrum. Lol!

Hi guys.

Im sorry to re-open this topic again

Orcvader, with the card you mentioed above what is that like in terms of todays games? I was looking at ( HIS HD 6870 IceQ X PLUS Edition 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive**) which is the same card but with better cooling. Would this be better gor an extra £6??

The only problem is my Tower so a new one is in need due to the shere size of these cards so could you recommend one for me. I was looking at the Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black

Kind Regards

Andy

I got a refund from the GT440 and so im ready to pay for a new card tonight

Kind Regards

Thank you so much for your reply. I will go for the MSI card then.

Thank you again for all your help the card is now coming out :p

Regards

Andy
