NVIDIA GTS 550

Anyone else clutching for one of these ? - in the hope it costs somewhat the same as the GTS 450, with the same performance increase seen between the GTS 460 and GTX 560ti.

I can't find much about release dates other than "february". Anyone got more info?

the gts 550 will be a gtx 460 replacement and will most likely be priced the same, given the current trend in the nvidia lineup

Well the gtx 560 is 30% more expensive than the gtx 460 (1gig) on average and performs around 30% better. So I assume that the next step down would be a gtx 460 replacement at gtx 460 prices

agree with above though its not necessarily going to be the 550 though, it may be the 560, no Ti denomination

Ah yeah never thought of that. I guess there is very little known at the moment, despite it being around the corner (so we believe). I haven't followed NVIDIA for a while so that could be common for all I know.

After a mid-range card that doesn't take more than one 6-pin power connector (microATX PSU) to go on my new Sandy Bridge rig. But surely it wouldn't make sense to buy the the GTS 450 now ? or am I mad waiting.

you not got a spare molex you coulduse a molex to PCI-E converter and get a slightly higher rated card?

If there is ever going to be a gts 550 and if it will be meant as a gtx 460 replacement it will have 2 6-pin power connectors just like the gtx 460 as they are still on the same litography (i.e. 40 nm).

@95thrifles: Yeah I didn't rule that out! thanks for confirming that actually - thought i'd seen it done somewhere before.

If the GTS 560 (non ti) / GTS 550 or whatever it will be called, is not passively cooled and costs £150ish, I guess I could stretch to the 560ti for future proofing as all I read are great things - noise / temperature / price / performance.

microATX case though. And I wouldn't want to push this microATX PSU too far. It's 86% efficient but only up to a certain current draw I should imagine.

Agreed. The 460 is an excellent card that's still selling well. I really don't see the logic in replacing it with a 550 which is almost idetical performance for an almost identical price.

knowing nvidia they will probrably just rebrand the 460 .

The GTS550 is either going to have similar performance to an overclocked GTX460 or be an overclocked GTS450 with all the stream processors enabled.
