Nvidia GTX 460 - Modern Equivalent Questions

I currently have a 768MB Asus GTX 460.

I was thinking of replacing it for something newer, but same equivalent level. I don't actually play a lot of games these days, and would be more concerned about heat/power (especially since it is probably going to be in a SFF case).

At the time I think it was about £130, and I would think my next would be around about the same.

Sticking with Nvidia, I think this puts it somewhere between a GTX 750 and a GTX 960. Presumably there is a 950 series coming soon, which might suit me better.

Monitor wise, I'm on 1080p. If anything, this would probably be swapped out for a 1440p, but not 4k anytime soon. Given that, what memory size should I be looking for in a card?

960 would be equiv, a 750 is a model down.
for 1440p you really want 4gb+ Vram, more so if you are going ot be using it for a few years.
But I imagine since the card won't be turning on all the bells and whistles in games, you will be fine with some settings turned down.
Generally though, 1440p is much harder to drive than 1080p, so if you want to make that jump, you will need a better gpu in order to maintain the same quality/fps

The equivalent is the GTX 960 but it's a poor card. Overpriced and crippled by the low memory bus (128-bit).

If your going to be sticking with nvidia and it's going in a SFF case I'd look at the GTX 750Ti. The newer ? GTX 950/950Ti probably won't be release for quite some time yet maybe Q3-Q4 later this year.

If however your going to be stepping up to a 2560x1440p screen then you'll want a card with quite a bit more grunt than the 750Ti even for the most casual of gamers imo. A 290 can be had for around the £200 mark but it will be considerably more hot and noisey, probably not suited for a SFF case unless it has one of the better aftermarket coolers.

Sad fact is that the mid-range market (where you seem to be sitting) is very very poorly served by nvidia.

Unless nvidia is essential I would personally look at the 280 or 280X. Tad above your budget but with more VRAM it will be better if you do opt to go to 1440p.

He doesn't play many games

Which means he still plays some. 960 would be naff at 1440p.

Actually, to be honest, I don't play ANY. Haven't done for a while. Even my Xbox One doesn't get a look in these days.

I think I'll probably go for something like the 750 GTX. Shouldn't be too expensive, seems to have lots of option such as size, cooling and connections, which will help me decide, plus probably cooler than an ATI equivalent.

Interesting that it's 128bit memory bus. Even my previous 8800GS had 192bit, with a weird 384MB memory size.
